Radhika Apte is all set to make her TV debut with Anurag Basu's Stories by Rabindranath Tagore on Epic channel. The actress recreates the character of Binodini from Choker Bali.
About how she landed the part Radhika says, "I've read Tagore's stories in school as a child, not any time recently. Not been in touch with literature. This was my chance to revisit it. I was sleeping when Anurag texted me about the show. I saw the message and I couldn't sleep after that. I called him up and Anurag told me I know it's television but I promise you it won't look like that'. I told him You don't have to say anything, if you are doing it, I'm in'. I have never done TV so I have nothing to compare the show with. It genuinely felt like we were shooting a film."
Working with Anurag Basu was a wonderful experience, Radhika says. "He doesn't give you a bound script but that isn't bad " it's just a different way of working. He gets into the actor's head and while you are performing, he is constantly with you. In between the performance he tells you Abhi teri samajh mein aa gaya' Ab wapas ja aur kar le.' That collabration is rare to find."
Radhika is currently shooting for Bombariya and has a few other films in the pipeline. But what she's most excited about is her musician husband Benedict Taylor's film Killa, which releases in India soon.
She says, "Killa is a film by a good friend of mine, Avinash. It's won so many awards and it's beautiful. Benedict has done the music, and I'm so proud of his work."
About Bededict's influence on her life, Radhika tells us, "We do discuss work at home and each other's projects. He watches my work and gives me constructive feedback. As for music, he knows so much about music that I feel like a small fry. I'm listening to a lot of '70s Manchester music these days. Benedict studied in Manchester and got hooked to it, so it's rubbing off on me these days!"
