Love the way how in the end of Ekaant the presenter allows us to choose the take away from it... Gives us the freedom to choose our version of the history from what was presented instead of telling we what we should be choosing like the recent episode of Mysore curse where he said we could either believe in the legends or scientific facts, purely our discretion. Similarly loved the way he said about Ross Island episode that in the end even though it is sad history, it still is OUR history! :)

N yeah love those short formats... Saw one of Jataka tales and another of Indian silk trade! Was so cute and informative at the same time!

Also agree with u on those beautiful Classical songs played during Breaks... So soulfully melodious... And even the picturization is peaceful...

@Ekaant: True that, the dialogues/narration is just Awesome,
I could listen to this channel all day long, it is presently my favourite channel.

Kahi Suni,
Ekaant,
Sanrachna(it literally bought goosebumps when I heard some of the facts),
Lost recipes(droolworthy!),
Once more with Javed Jaffrey,
Adrishya - stories of the oldest Indian spies (this is just amazing)
and the short formats,
the ones which told us about Buddhism,
Samagri parts which told about Chillies, Cotton, Silk, etc...
Indian film history, Indian music history, Paheli which features dynamic women who revolutionalized the world and SO MUCH MORE! There is so much to learn, isn't it?

I am just more excited for whatever EPIC knowledge they are going to keep broadcasting in the future, I sincerely hope it maintains the quality of its shows.
I also really dig the research team who must have collated all this info. I wish I could see and understand the process behind all this.

Just out of curiosity I visited the UNESCO website which enlists the heritage sites across the world, I wish I could visit all these places someday

Epic is the only private channel that focused this much on India.

I used to watch DD and its sister channels like DD Bharti and Gyan Darshan from which I got knowledge of not just India but other cultures also.

Epic is the satellite channel, fancy version of glorious days of Doordarshan.

I love the short films. Classical songs with description of ragas. Rarely you had a channel whose even fillers are so fabulous and informative.

That said I want it to keep up its standards. So far movies are those that highlight Indian history and culture. It better remain thus.

Also, I hope to see desiness in Indian history shows and not wannabe Roman/Greek looks.

One episode of Kahi Suni had Arjuna dressed like a Roman warrior. That's not done. Our people had their own ways which are well depicted in history and art. Follow that instead of showing them in wannabe modern ways.

In Dharmakshetra also the actors look made up. Costumes don't look traditional Indian.

I want to see focus on other communities and cultures too. Sikhs, Parsees, Jains, Buddhists, tribals etc. Their culture, architecture, practices etc.

Apart from just architecture and culture I want to see programs on science, knowledge, medicine, literature etc in India too.

Epic has that potential. And I have high expectations having followed DD India, DD Bharti and Gyan Darshan as well. If they want they can re-telecast old shows too just as they are showing BRC Mahabharat.

I love how shows are free from OTT drama and loud BGM. It reminds me of sensible days of Indian TV before Balaji invaded it.

Agree with you on all points especially where you've mentioned about their attire,
Although I haven't yet checked out Dharmakshetra show.

Yes, DD Bharati is amazing!
(Have you checked out InSync channel? It's again another channel worth listening to)
I really truly wish EPIC retains its uniqueness.

BTW, in an episode of Ekaant which I saw today, they covered the Murud Janjira fort which was covered in Sanrachna too. I was recently wondering whether any of the monuments overlapped in the shows because the themes are different yet not so different.

Even though Indian TV overall aired soaps earlier, some of them, I guess most of them were worth watching compared to what is shown nowadays.. I miss so many of those shows.

I wish, there were a channel (named Retro/Nostalgic or something like that),
which will feature all the lost forgotten TV shows (Indian as well as American), popular back in the days. Will make a list of those shows and share it. 😳

@atominis n @cutemug: DD? Sighh good ol tyms! I just remember the tyms wen shows were sorted according to age group and timings... like morning news and shows, afternoon family dramas... I remember SAB tv owners family dramas I had to watch unwilling bcz there was nothing else on tv during the hot hot summer holidays... Then the best time- evening time when it was all about kids! Informative n fun! Had a huge variety just for kids! Then around 6pm few English teenage shows, which I was banned frm watching! πŸ˜† Then evening news, chitrahaar n all progs for elders of the house.

Seriously thinking back, v must all congratulate DD for achieving this feat of sticking to the adage of something for everybody! They truly achieved it! πŸ‘

Then when cable finally started becoming a common household convenience, DD got lost somewhere in all the commercialization and multitudes of channels catering to each age group separately ... Now the quality of the content might still be good but its packaging has taken a hit... The DD Bharthi and Gyan Darshan progs need to be conducted in a more brighter format, not the way it is being presented currently ... They are trying to teach and simplify things which ppl consider boring, so shouldn't they atleast make the setup interesting? Hmm..

Well but I must say few regional DD channels still have the spark! My regional DD is the first in the list of Fav channel line up on my set top box. It has very interesting Interviews like one I heard recently about house rent related regulations. Both the interviewer and interviewee covered both sides of the issue and had also answered to ppl who called to ask their queries. This is just one example of practically useful programming. But like all DD it too needs to get a physical makeover to make it more popular with the masses...

@Dharmakshetra: costumes ... I haven't thought much about it as I can't actually get past the fact that almost all accusations against Pandavas are getting brushed off... It is like a default reaction, no matter what accusations are hurled on them they are free to go... Also like Dronacharya eppy, so many accusations ... baseless answers and then what? All famous ppl r left scott free! Eventhough they keep saying no matter how great you were there on Earth, here it doesn't count! Hmmpf!

And I really feel bad for Shakuni now knowing what happened to all his 99 bros n father n then his sister cooly dismisses everything he did for her... I have just started watching it recently and till now I only saw him being sent to hell. But I loved his parting line that he had alrdy lived it, nothing new...

And another thing which irritates me in that show is how is Lord Krishna there? He shouldn't be there in the first place! Every avatar after leaving their worldly abode becomes one with the Lord right? And what is He doing there according to the show? Just supporting pandavas even in afterlife? Because doesn't Gita say that "All good and bad is because of me... Everything is in me and I'm in everyone " ?
His presence there as Krishna should have been avoided because now even though it is Chitragupt's court, it is actually Krishna's court because seriously He is God for God's sake!

So they should really have avoided pulling God into this mess of humans. It should have been just the mortals and Chitragupt like for every other mortal.

Okay ufff this is a huge rant... Sorry got carried away! ;)

Anyways cutemug do make a list of those showsn share it here. We can all reminisce and have a fun discussion! :) BTW I saw the link u gave yar and I just realized that only very few monuments of ours are listed there! Because even though I haven't seen many listed there, I have seen so many others that isn't listed there which are much older than the ones mentioned ... Will one day sit and make a list of all such places big and small alike because History is what counts right? Not the size of the monument ... :)

Finally found the Epic forum. 😊

Hello everyone,

I am so glad there are so many fans. I love almost all shows on the channel, especially the non fiction ones. This month has been about the repeats of the four shows; Siyasat, Kahi suni, ekaant and Dharmakshetra. Having a ball watching these one after another.

I do miss the other shows. Hoping from next month onwards, the orginal timings return.
