Did I feel a silent rebellion in Sudha. Though on the surface she has agreed to do everything her father wants and Chander is making her do, I feel in her mind there is a rebellion. In her eyes I didnt just see pain, but an anguish and frustration where people have decided to take decision on her life.
The words she tell Chander each one stings, though are indirect. Whether it is the kala daag in her hand, mending chappal or deciding to go on her own and even walking to the mandap and sitting there telling empty promises Sudha really looked a rebellious lady to me.

There is a fire burning inside her, the fire that keeps telling her injustice has happened to her. And in that fire I somehow feel she is going to burn, taking along with her the people who did it to her.

Sudha is a woman who lived life on her terms and when her terms were denied to her, she decided to stop living itself. Seeing the precap I dont think Sudha compromised like the leading ladies of today's daily soaps.

Finally, I am free to comment! I love reading your posts, Shruti. They're always expressed beautifully & so insightful.

I felt the same as well. On the surface, she seemed to have given in to Chandar. But every scene post her acceptance, she not only alienated Chandar from herself, but she did not leave any opportunity to rub it into him that he's the one who has ruined it all. What they shared, who she was, who she's become & what she will be. Especially when Sudha agreed to marry on the condition that Chandar be in front of her & watch her, I felt that she wanted to give Chandar back the pain he gave her. However, when she sat for the rituals, I felt that it wasn't just about her pain, or his pain; her every 'swikar hai' was breaking her, but she went on hoping that maybe he would stop her or do something. But he didn't & that's when all her expectations & dreams really broke. The precap is evidence of that. They've forced her into the marriage but they can no longer control her & the impending doom arriving. This forced marriage is going to end up destroying all their lives.

More than Chandar, I am disappointed in Shukla. How could he still going on with the wedding when his daughter was unhappy? What was the rush to get her married? Isn't she very young? Indeed, society is unfair on girls, more so back in those days.

I have a question. Is Sudha ill as in does she have some physical condition? She falls sick easily by the littlest of things. I have not read the novel.

I assume she wills herself to stop living. She has a very strong will.

@prc the assumption now and then is the fact that a woman will compromise and she will accept life as she doesn't have any other choice.
Today women have more freedom break such myth. What with education and financial independence, woman are no longer willing to live a life someone else expect them to live.
But in those days it was difficult to rebel. And I guess the only way available to Sudha was destroy herself than live in a forced marriage.
