Small screen stars with Bollywood aspirations don't want to be slotted as television products anymore
Nowadays, television actors shy away from being referred to as telly actors. Lead actors who once tom-tommed from the rooftops about their TV roles are singing a new tune now.
Nausheen Ali Sardar | |
Filmi chakkar: Has wrapped a series of films, none of which have seen the light of the day. Her most successful venture on television has been Kkusum, which made her a household name. However, after Kkusum, Nausheen didn't find a role that worked for her. Now that the actress has completed a series of films, she's still waiting for that big Bolly break.
Rohit Roy | |
Filmi chakkar: His last film release was Apoorva Lakhia's Shooutout at Lokhandwala. A former TV actor, he has now turned into a B-Town one. Since Shootout has fared reasonably well, Roy wants to pursue a full-fledged filmi career and doesn't just want to act he wants to direct as well. He's had a successful run on the small screen, yet Rohit doesn't like being slotted as a TV actor.
Kulraj Randhawa | |
Filmi chakkar: Will be seen in Anil Sharma's Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron. With a pretty dimpled face and girl-next-door charm, Kulraj soon became a popular name on TV. Apart from doing a Bollywood film called Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron, Kulraj made her debut in a Punjabi flick, Mannat, opposite Jimmy Sheirgill. Consciously staying away from TV after Kareena, Kulraj wants to make her name in films. Only time will tell is it is a smart move.
Karisma Tanna | |
Filmi chakkar: Made a very small and brief appearance in Sunil Darshan's Dosti as Bobby Deol's sister. Karishma Tanna wowed audiences as the whacky Indu in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and has had a healthy run with TV shows. Of late, however, the actress has been talking about giving up TV and doing movies full-time. We are told Karisma has been sending feelers to producers and meeting them. How much headway she makes into Bollywood still remains to be seen.
Kushal Punjabi | |
Filmi chakkar: Is currently banking on Vivek Agnihotri's Goal, starring John Abraham. Though Kushal started his career with television, the actor has done a series of appearances in movies as well. Apart from Soham's Kaal, Kushal was seen in a cameo in Nikhil Advani's Salaam-e-Ishq. Kushal recently completed his schedule of Goal where he is reportedly playing the role of a goalie.
Neeru Bajwa | |
Filmi chakkar: Has signed a contract with TIPS for a series of films lined up for release this year. Having made a successful debut with her maiden film Dil Apna Punjabi, she doesn't want to do any more television. Now, Neeru has her sights firmly fixed on Bollywood. |
