My Character & I: Kanchi Kaul

Kanchi Kaul plays Anu in the Sony daily, Ek Ladki Anjaani Si. A victim of a medical blunder, she now finds herself at the mercy of the doctors, who have just told her that her days are numbered...

Your character was initially a victim of medical error?
Anu was a carefree, young girl all set to go abroad to study. While going through the mandatory medical tests, Anu's files get interchanged and she gets impregnated by accident!

That's what caused an upheaval in your life?
Yes. It resulted in my study plans going for a toss. And here I was, answering questions about how I got pregnant and wondering who the father of the child was.

But you did find Nikhil, the father of the child…
I did find him and even fell in love with him. I am now married to him but there is another dilemma as my health condition is very bad. Anu is seven months pregnant and the doctors have already told her that they can either save her or her child. So even though it is a happy occasion for Nikhil and me, my health condition is now a cause of grave concern.

There was the customary kahaani mein twist before you married Nikhil. He had a wife and there was also your saviour, Veerendra…
Nikhil's marriage to Tulika ended in a divorce while Veerendra was just a saviour. Passions did ride high for a while, but he turned negative and wanted to bump off Nikhil and me. Eventually it was he who met a gory end.

Anu has had a life full of twists and turns!
To think that everything had just worked fine for us and now when the baby is due, I find myself confronting yet another dilemma: my baby or me? Still, I am shopping for baby stuff and hoping everything will be fine.

Do you think a person like Anu exists in real life?
Yes. I have read that abroad there have been cases where women were wrongly impregnated, making their lives go topsy-turvy.
