Hey.

There have been many considerable changes in the way the serial makers have adapted Anuja Chauhan's crisp and heartwarming book The Pricey Thakur Girls, especially the drastic change in time-frame, that all together took away the real essence of the book.

We have Audis, 5 Star Restaurants, Selfies, Numerous TV Channels, and a house in the Hailey Road which looks pretty modern to be called an old Thakur House. But what messed me up was, the absence of Samar, the step-son of Anjini.

Anjini seems to be happy in her marriage, and yet in the book, there was emphasis on the lack of communication the spouses had. And to make matters worse, they don't have the son-from-the-first-wife. I feel Samar had a vital role to play in the story in the book, but lets not go there as we have already arrived at the fact they have changed it drastically. I for once did not find any sense in why as to Dylan would do something as recommending a friend for a job instead of the already selected one (and then he reprimands Dabbu for using her "sources" for getting up a job). The Roving Eye would have been a better point of future contention between the two, instead of just kicking her out of a job.

The most important of all, The kot-piece sessions have been removed. I mean, that really takes away everything about the love story, right?

Anyhow, I dun complain about the show, just, I had high hopes when it said that it is an "adaptation" of such a phenomenal book, but I find only the names of the character and the serial to be in the line of it. But, it is soon to judge a serial, given they have had only a couple of episodes.

Thoughts?

I've read d book too, n I agree that the things which u pointed out we're vital in d book...
But, maybe the makers of d serial don't want it to be a bit too much in showing things, for example, Chandi eloping and all that😳
Maybe that's y the script writers are taking it their own way.
Well... So far, so good😉
Let's wait n watch

I dun have problems with the eloping part being absent. I think other things are a bit too important as part of the book. But let's see, so far so good.

I have a feeling that d CVs are giving more focus to Dabbu-Dylan story than anything else.
You love story tracks give more TRPs😆

I agree to the points you've mentioned and I would've really liked to see the kot piece sessions and the fact that Dylan was fascinated by Dabbu's eyes since their first meeting. Also I think the makers should ve shown how Dabbu got her name (the whole Randhir Kapoor thing) and how she is like this lover of losers.

Well the book has been moulded essentially to suit the palette of the Indian audience . The reader in me hopes that they don't cut off elements that added beauty and uniqueness to the story.
Great post! !

I haven't read the book but a thing that I wanted to comment on was that hypocrisy is like second nature in indian television so honestly I'm not even surprised. I mean when Dylan gave the job to that girl but was getting upset over Dabbu doing the same. And speaking of hypocrisy, though the show tries to eradicate the traditional perception of how we view women, it sometimes furthers the stereotypes. Like when the lawyer told Dabbu how she looked "gharelu" and probably doesn't have any money and how she should just forget about the case because a richer guy is her opponent. I expected Dabbu to give him a kick ass reply but nope didn't happen. But yeah I'm actually really liking the show so far. I find it cute and often times it speaks on the real issues rather than something annoyingly illogical. And as of right now Anji seems very one dimensional so I hope we get to know more about her. The show started so we probably have a lot to look forward to.

Exactly. That comment was snarky, but her retort was baseless if I may say. I was disappointed with what she said. Dabbu was supposed to be witty in the book, not stupid as they show her to be. Falling in conference rooms and dropping water on tables, and the heights, speaking along with the newsreader during recording, I mean really?

I dunno. It's disheartening and too a point disturbing also. I had so much expectations from it. 😕 Yes, they really took away the beauty up till now, hope they don't do it ahead, and make it a drama instead, you know what I mean.

I know, and the fact that he used to wait for Sundays to come so that he could go to Hailey Road and see her after 6 days. I mean, that really was the essence of the book, not a romance between a boss and his employee!
