Contentdriven@ I agree with most of the points you've made here, that tv shows have certain preordained values that a FL should always possess, like she always choosing to stay amid her in laws, being a doormat, stopping her work etc which arent practically possible in modern families these days. But soap operas always need a big family to run their shows with family drama and entertainment which is why the main couple are always shown to be living with the in laws. Many of the other things like having a job, living financially independent and having their own way of lifestyle are omitted to suit the tv audience who watch the shows and judge them. If the content and FL is not apt for their moral compass they simply reject the shows and the remuneration the shows get via trp viewers becomes impossible. Which is probably why the FLs are always shown like this typical goody goody shoes.

Coming to your query on why should a show be morally right, no it doesn't have to be so all the time. But when a show goes on air , with the way it's promoted, and with the initial episodes we develop an expectation from the show. This show turned entirely different from that after a point of time.

Writing, execution, performance and continuity are foremost important aspects for a show to be liked and accepted by everyone, even if the leads aren't what we call as perfect and morally right people. If the show sucks in these criteria's that's when the viewers are disappointed which leads to frustration and negative posts. And this show sucked big time on all this.

Writing is the most inconsistent thing in this show. Parth and Shorvari characters have been written unbelievably different from what they were in the initial episodes just to accommodate certain illogical tracks.

If at all they had plans to have Parth fall out of love with Shorvari and fall for Teni gradually, there were ways to show them in a more acceptable and tasteful manner. But it never was the case. First of all Parth and Shorvari couple could have been a normal couple out of arranged marriage, and not like this so much in love soulmates kinda couple since the beginning.

It's not that Indian viewers aren't open to watch extra marital affairs or falling out of love with their spouses and having soft spot for a new person gradually, Coz we are. It's just the writing, execution, performance have to be convincing. If it's shown half baked like this show, it's gonna be rejected by many who look for well narrated stories.

Parth character showed a 360 degree turn before and after the replacement. And how are the viewers expected to connect with the show? Rest I think there are people who can explain our PoV in a much better way, I'll leave it to them!

I agree with your points. That is what I am saying - the show is so badly written that it comes across as cringeworthy. I wasn't talking about all Indian viewers. I was just adressing those on the forum who have
basically expressed the view that the show offends morality

Wait what?? This show was not about Parth and Teni! It was about Parth and Shorvori , a childless couple opting for surrogacy! Makers grabbed eye balls using PaRi and all of a sudden some street chick comes and falls for hubby and lists after him and soon you're shown those cheap scenes! Like what?!? A show which was good turned to a po*n show ! Why would the people who liked the show initially would like this shit? Indian culture is unique and would be ! Indian shows have a decency and class which is all ruined now! Why can't be people Faithful towards thier partners ? Even if Parath lusted after Teni , it was wrong! If it pleases your eyes , it's right? Why cant shows be decent and morally correct? Would you like a show which shows a woman being raped? Or a child being harrased? Will you like it because it's morally pathetic and wrong in every sense or because it's breaking the stereotypes? Or you like it?
Every one has personal choices and thats why we hate this show because not everyone is sadistic.

And I would have liked it too if the actors were to act properly or even a little bit of story was written.

Freedom is there but it also comes with limitations and boundaries, one can't simply go and telecast their sex tape for entertainment!!!

@contentdriven
I really liked the way you put forward some relevant points.
Indian soaps are really worse now. I am sorry if I in any way sound rude because this show just gets on my nerves.

This show was promoted by the makers as love story of Parth and Shorvari, a childless couple who opted for surrogacy, I started watching the show because it was about surrogacy and around that time Indian law makers were bringing changes in surrogacy laws, so I assumed they will show the complexity of emotions of three people, Siddharth Shukla and Rashmi Desai have done their part perfectly (Now I don't have any positivity left for Jasmin so I can't even go back in time and think anything good about her), Teni's role has always been stupid.

The whole process of surrogacy was illegal as an unmarried woman cannot be a surrogate and I recall that there was some restriction on use of money, government used the term "Baby-trading business" for surrogacy, limiting it to people who actually need kids.

Teni was a drunkard who kept drinking even after she was pregnant, she was extremely reckless with the child, I don't recall a single scene from the show where she actually cared for the child she carried, it was all about Parth for her, generally, the problem with surrogacy is women not being able to detach from the baby, if Teni had run away out of love for the child, I would have understood and it would have been realistic, but either writers never wanted any relationship to develop between Teni and Ipshita or Jasmin couldn't carry it properly, I don't know, even her love for Parth comes off as extremely superficial and materialistic.

I know a couple who opted for traditional surrogacy as gestational surrogacy was too expensive for them, the surrogate was a nurse from a government hospital, she had to go through the prejudice of being pregnant when she was unmarried, her family broke all ties with her, and at the end, the couple didn't even take the baby from her, They don't want anything to do with the baby and she is raising the baby on her own till this date. The problems surrogate face in India are extreme, and to show a frivolous woman who was too glamorous to actually show the baby bump was ridiculous and basically a mockery of this subject, when makers took the subject they had the moral responsibility of showing it in a right way.

It is astonishing to see how people are unaware of the laws regarding surrogacy (I would rather believe that they are unaware than believe that they are too ignorant to walk on the surface of the Earth), they believe surrogates have a right to keep the baby, people who go for surrogacy are the ones who have tried almost every way of having a baby and they are so helpless that they need a woman to help them with the process, why a law which is made to help parents who can't have kids will give surrogate mother a right to keep their baby? I don't expect morality from a show but I don't expect glorification of wrong deeds, don't pick up sensitive subjects if you don't have a brain to keep up with it.

Sudha and @ruhi and @contentdriven you all have put very valid points. It is good to see such discussions here.
I will just add that yes, majority of Indian soaps are like that, but there are some exceptions too though very rare. There have been shows which had female leads who stood for themselves, and male leads who didn't torture their female counterparts. Most of them were unsuccessful in terms of ratings and met premature end, only few like Balika Vadhu, Everest could manage to have successful run. The audience has to be blamed too, but then it is chicken and egg situation. And it doesn't look like the situation will improve anytime soon.
The major problem with this show is that it was about a socially sensitive issue as surrogacy and secondly, it showed something as disgusting as bigamy which is socially and legally unacceptable, that too with a modern, educated, urban family. The show was promoted as something and turned to be a totally different thing altogether.
