Hey everyone! 😊
Here's a general review of the show including my take on the massage video business.
1. Massage video issue- IMO, a potentially interesting plot point has been wasted by the writers. They wrapped it up in barely 5 episodes. Usually, any plot point is meant to serve a purpose like changing the dynamics between two characters or furthering the storyline. In this case, they used it to redeem Piyush and also turn DiYush (just calling Deepika+Piyush this for now lol) from being enemies to friends (sort of). However, it was done very poorly. No time was given to it and they just raced ahead without fleshing it out properly.😕
The backstory of the problem between Sushant and Deepika was not talked about and I felt there should have been more focus on how Deepika handled the trauma of being threatened with an indecent video. Lots of people, more often girls are facing this issue where predators threaten to release pictures taken privately or doctored pictures and many victims commit suicide and take other drastic steps. It's a serious issue which the show could have taught the viewers about by showing the trauma it causes and how the person in question can hit back strongly at such predators. People still do not know how to handle cyber crime. It's a lost opportunity.
I don't know if the writers plan on bringing this issue back but I don't know how they can make it impactful now that everyone knows who did it.
2. Unnecessary characters in the Sharma household- Does anyone else feel that house is way too crowded? 😛 I just do not get why there have to be two similar characters- Buaji and that Darogah ki Biwi (don't know her name, but can you blame me for it?). They're both obviously there to create 'household' (read: saas-bahu) issues for Deepika once she gets married to Piyush. The show makers feel they need the classic kitchen politics angle but I think one such character would have been enough. Deepika will have to deal with 6 antagonistic people once DiYush get married- Piyush himself, Buaji, Darogah Ki Biwi, Piyush's dad, Duggu, Namrata. 🥱
3. Piyush's character- Clearly, he has a lot of growing up to do. I can understand immaturity but what I don't like is his almost inhumane attitude towards Deepika. Yes, he is attracted to Sarika and dreams of a slim and trim wife but that doesn't mean that he can treat Deepu like even her existence is a crime. He is also hypocritical in the sense that although he hates it when people taunt him about his weight, he has no qualms doing the same to Deepika and humiliating her. I knew DiYush would start off on a rocky note but I did not like that scene where he grabbed her by the neck and insulted her. That was straight up nasty. I find his character very interesting though, 'cause there are people whose compartmentalize their goodness- he is very caring about his family and is nice to Sarika 'cause he likes her, but anyone else who doesn't pass his test is ignored or like in Deepika's case, humiliated.
He is unlike Deepika in that she is an all round good person. She treats people well regardless of how they look. People like Piyush are plenty- victims who become victimizers. Another great opportunity
4. What I like- I think the show has wonderful actors in Meherzaan, Anjali and the rest of the cast, so I hope the writing does justice to their talent. In these few episodes, they have impressed me with their range of emotions and the show should make sure they handle this unique concept of a 'dhhai kilo love story' well.
The leads have good chemistry and the contrast between their characters' outlook on life can be very interesting to watch.
What do you guys feel? Would love to know what you guys think.
P.S. Excuse me for the long post, but I think I am incapable of writing short posts on IF lol.
