I am from UP..Hindi speaking and I think that there is no need for a National language...we are doing just fine with English as a binding language.....I will never understand the ego associated with any means of communication...for that matter is sign language any less important than any of the spoken languages...
Having said this...shame on Kamal Hassan for disrespecting Hindi like that....there is a way to protest and shaming any language is not one of them

The thing is you have an option of learning a South Indian language if you visit or have to stay there. But South Indians are expected to learn and converse in Hindi even when they are in their own region.
