A gritty period of play. Ashwin bowled in probing channels and trapped Shanto in front with an in-drifter. Mominul has been troubled by Akash Deep but he has hung in and has Mushfiqur for company.

Day 1: Stumps
"Due to incessant rains, play on Day 1 has been called off in Kanpur", is the latest update from BCCI on X (formerly known as Twitter). So, only 35 overs of play was possible today. India won the toss and Rohit chose to bowl. That decision came as a surprise to many but the overcast conditions was the reason Rohit took that decision and Akash Deep and Siraj were on the money upfront. Zakir was nipped out by Akash Deep for a 24-ball duck. Soon after, India successfully overturrned an on-field call as Shadman Islam was rapped in front by a nip-backer from Akash Deep. Mominul and Shanto batted with grit and determination in the tricky period before lunch with the latter looking more assured. After lunch, Ashwin came back for a bowl and outsmarted Shanto with an in-drifter to get him lbw. The ball has moved around for the pacers and the ploy to go in with three seamers doesn't seem to be a wrong move by India. More so as more rain is predicted on the first three days of the Test match. That's it from our coverage for today. Join us nice and early tomorrow to catch all the action. It's a goodbye from us for now.
"The start of play for Day 2 in Kanpur has been delayed due to rains," is the update from BCCI on X. The umpires, with their umbrellas, walk out to have a look at the conditions. Most of the ground has been covered.
Day 2: It was a damp start to the second Test in Kanpur. Overnight rain causing an hour delay for the toss, bad light and rain then cutting the day short during the second session. We just got 35 overs of action after Rohit Sharma opted to bowl. The wicket was soft and the ball moved around but the Bangladesh openers did well to see off the opening burst from Bumrah and Siraj only to fall to Akash Deep. Shanto and Mominul added a 50+ stand to steady the innings but Ashwin trapped the skipper just before bad light stopped play. What does day 2 have in store for us? It is a gloomy morning and the covers were on a little while ago. Let's see what the official update is regarding the start time.
