Suryakumar Yadav taught 'limitation is not weakness' lesson by Ravi Shastri ahead of debut as India's full-time captain.

It's the dawn of a new era for SKY. In a few hours from now, TextSuryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma's successor, will make his debut as India’s full-time captain when the Men in Blue take on Sri Lanka in the first T20I in Dambulla. Suryakumar has captained India before in eight T20Is – including a T20I series win against Australia and a 1-1 draw against South Africa late last year, but in both of those instances, he was only stepping in for Hardik Pandya, who had captained India for the better part of the year but had failed to recover from the ankle injury he sustained in the World Cup.

India’s newly-forged coach-captain combination of Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav will look to make an instant impact against a Sri Lankan team in disarray when the familiar South Asian rivals face off in a limited-overs series, starting with three T20Is, here on Saturday.

Two-time World Cup winner Gambhir is now at the helm of the ship as India’s head coach while the T20I reigns have been handed over to one of the best batters in the format, Suryakumar.

Suryakumar’s elevation came as a slight surprise, given that he leapfrogged Hardik Pandya for the job. The selectors also ignored his comparative lack of experience as captain.

Sri Lanka had a forgettable World Cup. They crashed out of the league stage and won only one out of their four games. However, they recently concluded the Lanka Premier League and most of the players come into this series in good form. They too have a change in personnel; Charith Asalanka was named captain of the T20 team after he led his side Jaffna Kings to the LPL title, Chris Silverwood resigned after the World Cup debacle and Sanath Jayasuriya is the interim coach. Both teams are looking at a fresh start with the focus being the World Cup in two years time. Who's going to start their new journey with a win?

Pitch condition "The weather looks pleasant. There's a cool breeze blowing across the ground. The wicket looks good. We had 3 LPL games here and that surface looked different. We see cracks. It might get slower once the ball loses its hardness but come evening it should be good for batting. We expect a lot of runs here," reckon Saba Karim and Farvez Mahroof.
