India vs Zimbabwe 2nd T20 India tour of Zimbabwe, 2024 on 7th July at Harare, Zimbabwe

Shubman Gill's India were handed a reality check by Sikandar Raza's Zimbabwe in the opening T20I of the 5-match series on Saturday, 6 July. India failed to chase down 116 runs in Harare, and were bundled out for their lowest T20I score in the last 8 years. Star players who have already made a name in the Indian Premier League miserably failed in the sticky track in Harare as India got bundled out for just 102 runs in 19.5 overs.

India captain Shubman Gill said that the team looked rusty and asked his batters to step up in the next game. The India side will do well to keep their ego and methods aside as the Harare track is not the one where they will get to make 200+ runs every day. The team will look to shake the defeat off and get into their zone quickly as they face Zimbabwe once again on Sunday, 7 July.

The batters including debutants Riyan Parag, Abhishek Sharma and Dhruv Jurel will hope to assess the situation quickly as India cannot let another game slip against a team that was not able to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024. Zimbabwe were beaten by Uganda in the African qualifiers and had to sit out this year's competition despite being a legacy team in the history of African cricket.

India are likely to field an unchanged XI as interim coach VVS Laxman would hope that it was just one bad day at the office for the batters. There are several players in this team who are expected to take over the mantle from Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja, and they will need to prove their worth on Sunday, when India face the wily Zimbabwean team once again.

ZIM VS IND, 2ND T20I: PITCH AND WEATHER REPORT

India vs Zimbabwe 2nd T20I Team News

India will continue missing Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube and Yashasvi Jaiswal for this match. Despite Abhishek Sharma and Riyan Parag's poor outing in their debuts, the duo are likely to keep their place in the lineup. Khaleel Ahmed, who had a struggle with the ball, may be dropped in the match as KKR bowler Harshit Rana may be handed a debut.

Zimbabwe are likely to name the same team for the upcoming match after a fantastic start to the series.

A comeback will be crucial for the Men in Blue, while the African nation would be excited to keep their winning momentum going.

Zimbabwe will be relying on their pace bowling department as the likes of Wellington Masakadza, Blessing Muzarabani, and Richard Ngarava will have to deliver goods for the hosts in the upcoming match as well. Tendai Chatara will also be the one to watch out for. Shubman Gill, who scored 31 runs in the first game, will have to provide more confidence in the batting unit, while Riyan Parag and Abhishek Sharma will aim to add up to the familiarity of the conditions, after unsuccessful maiden outings.

Probable Top Performers from ZIM vs IND

Probable Best Batter: Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill has scored just 40 runs in his last four T20I innings. His last fifty-plus score came against West Indies in August 2023, scoring 77 off 43. The India opener is going through a run draught in the shortest format of the game. He was not at his best for Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2024 too, he will be eying for a resurgence against Zimbabwe.

Probable Best Bowler: Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan

Rising pacer Avesh Khan was impressive in IPL 2024 for Rajasthan Royals, but his economy rate was a point of concern in the powerplay. The pacer impressed at the death and claimed most of his wickets. He will be the pacer Gill would be utilising effectively, especially against the likes of Sikandar Raza and Brian Bennett.
