The comprehensive 4-1 series victory against Australia must have provided the new captain with some extra confidence and he would look to lead with the same zeal abroad. Another thing, Suryakumar Yadav is setting his eyes on Virat Kohli's long-standing record.

Pitch report

India vs South Africa pitch report

The Kingsmead stadium pitch is known for helping bowlers, particularly seamers who get extra movement from the moist track. Spinners usually struggle here. However, batters can score a lot of runs once they get used to the pitch. The team winning the toss will probably bat first to try and set a big score.

What to expect: A slowish but fair surface, which could be enlivened by the 15 millimetres of rain that has been forecast for a stormy morning. Anticipate, also, a farewell for Wilson Ngobese, who joined Kingsmead's groundstaff in 1975 and has been the head curator since 1999. This will be Ngobese's last international pitch.

Thanks for the tag I was thinking that the season have ended ?

The live visuals don't present a promising picture. The drizzle is steady at present. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Ali: "I have learned to appreciate the rain delays. There is not much happening, but it still gives you the feeling that you are following a cricket match. You can get your work done while alleviating the missing-out feeling" --- The perfect positive amid the frustration
