Dayalan Hemalatha, right handed bat, comes to the crease
4 then 6 by Hemalatha
INDW: 181-4 after 20 overs
India W 181 for 4 in 20 overs.
Dayalan on 10
Richa on 33
The target for Malaysia is 182.
The intention for India today was to test their batting depth. Mandhana was rested, Harmanpreet and Jemimah didn't bat. There was a century opening stand led by Sabbineni Meghana who top-scored with 69. Shafali Verma found some runs, but was still fighting for fluency. Some cheer for Malaysia at the end with those wickets for Duraisingam and Syuhada, but a rapid knock from Richa Ghosh and a big finish from Hemalatha took India past 181, which should be enough for them to register a second successive win.
We all expected this to happen with India batting first. But the highlights of this innings have been Malaysia and their ecstatic celebrations. They are just happy to be here, to belong at such a level and if lucky, pick up a wicket or two!! India have registered the highest score of the tournament so far, as they got an opening partnership in excess of 100 with Shafali Verma and Meghana playing their natural game. The latter got to a splendid fifty, but then tamely chipped one to extra cover. Richa Ghosh walked out and played an explosive cameo, ending unbeaten with 33.In the 19th over, Malaysia struck twice off consecutive deliveries, with Nur Syuhada striking with her first two balls of the match. Let's see what Malaysia can muster now with the bat, but what can't be taken away from them were those unbrindled celebrations after picking up four Indian wickets.
Malaysia 1 for 1 in the 1st over.
