Bangladesh got eliminated from Asia Cup 2022 day before yesterday, while Hong Kong were knocked-out by Pakistan less than 24 hours ago. It was a thumping victory for Pakistan as they managed to bowl out Hong Kong for an embarrassing total of 38. Hello and welcome to the first game of the Super Four Stage as Afghanistan take on Sri Lanka at the Sharjah Intenational Stadium. When these two teams met earlier in the tournament, Afghanistan outclassed Sri Lanka, so the latter will be looking forward to settling the scores tonight. Afghanistan have been class apart, especially when it comes to the bowling department. So it would be interesting to see how Sri Lanka deal with that. Kusal Mendis played a pivotal role to get them into the Super Four stage, but will he be able to do it again? Will he be able to chip in with another significant contribution?

Tomorrow's match will be the highlight of this tournament.

Less than 10 minutes away from the toss, so what are everyone's thoughts on the game? Shashank in his preview posited that the toss shouldn't play as major a role, though you'd have to imagine chasing in such a crucial game might be a considerable advantage.

ShahSafeer: "This is round two between these two teams. Sri lanka have been fantastic when it comes to round to or bounce back after a debacle!!"

Dhaval : "First 2 matches of the Super 4s is exactly the same as first 2 matches of the series and exactly a week apart. What a coincidence. Hopefully the results are also the same. :)"

So the spinners will very likely play a major role here, and both these sides have plenty to offer in that department. Much will therefore depend on how each team's batters negotiate these spin trials, something that Asian batters have had a surprising amount of trouble with, and something that Mickey Arthur has many thoughts on.

Both these sides are coming into this game on the back of victories - though Afghanistan are undefeated this tournament so far, and have already recorded a comprehensive win against Sri Lanka.

Afghanistan's road to the Super 4s has been relatively smooth sailing; they dominated Sri Lanka in their first game, and then weathered a Bangladesh fightback in stunning fashion. Both those games were essentially won on the back of their bowlers, with their seamers running through Sri Lanka's batters and then the spinners doing the job against Bangladesh. But those matches also highlighted some of the explosive potential of their batters such as Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Hazratullah Zazai and Najibullah Zadran. To say Afghanistan are favourites headed into this tie wouldn't be the shocking statement it might have been a while ago - in fact Sri Lanka's own Farveez Maharoof agrees.

As for Sri Lanka, they will be hoping that their nail-biting win against Bangladesh will kick-start their campaign. It was a win borne out of a fair share of luck, yes, with Kusal Mendis being given numerous reprieves and Bangladesh themselves doling out a criminal amount of extras (including the winning runs!) but there was a lot to like in that performance too. The ground fielding was one, and the simple fact that they managed to chase down such a formidable total under pressure cannot be overlooked.
