What a fight by Ireland. And what poor bowling by india, I guess pitch was batting friendly but still dont expect this bowling from them. They won by just 4 runs, Malik ne izzat bachali

Umran Malik roars in delight, despair on the faces of the Irish players. On a good batting deck, Hardik opted to bat. India lost Ishan Kishan early but that was followed by a 176-run stand (India's highest partnership in T20Is) between Deepak Hooda and Sanju Samson. While the former notched up his maiden ton, the latter recorded his highest score and India posted a massive score of 225. Not many would have even backed the Irish team to get close to the target but the hosts had other ideas. In reply, Ireland got off to a flier scoring 65 runs in five overs. The introduction of spin provided the breakthrough as Bishnoi cleaned up Stirling for 40(18). They lost Delany in the very next over but captain kept his team in the hunt with his sixth T20I half-century. Even the skipper's dismissal didn't hamper Ireland as they kept coming hard at the Indian bowlers. Tector, Dockrell and Adair ensured that the required rate was never out of reach.

Umran Malik with a fist pump to celebrate his defense. Gets a hug from Kishan, and India can finally breathe easy. Stirling, Balbirnie, Tector, Dockrell and Adair nearly pulled off the perfect T20 chase, and in the end, just one boundary shot is the difference between victory and defeat.

Stat alert: This is the second-most runs conceded by India in a T20I. #1 on the list is the 245 they conceded in a one-run defeat against West Indies in the USA in 2016. That game also had an Indian (KL Rahul) scoring a century. Speaking of centuries, the Hooda ton seems such a long time ago given how tantalisingly close this second innings was.

Adarsh: "This also highlights the importance of Chahal. He conceded only 11 runs in his 3 overs in the first match."

Harshal Patel: "We were comfortable with 225, and most times you defend it. They played good shots, wicket was a belter, outfield was fast, we made a few mistakes and they got close. But we held our nerves and finished the game. (Umran 20th over) Held his nerve, the way the game was going the momentum was with the batting unit. The way he finished was exceptional. (ireland batters impressive?) Absolutely. Exceptional shots. We were sort of surprised the way they batted today. There's no doubt about the quality of Irish batters, it was on show today."

Deepak Hooda is the Player of the Series. He made an unbeaten 47 in the first T20I too.
