Sony TV's Chhanchhan a week later

TRP and GRP score card for the week has hit the floor and it's time to review grades of this year's most ambitious project of Sony TV – Chhanchhan. Chhanchhan in the week of its launch has managed to garner a TRP of 1.4 with its 1^st episode acquiring a viewership of around 1.7.

TRP rating of 1.4 is surely better than its predecessor Honge Judaa Na Hum which wrapped up at 0.4 and with this Chhanchhan becomes the 2^nd most watched show ofSony TV. Definitely a reason to rejoice at Sony TV considering that their last project Dil Ki Nazar Se Khubsoorat could manage an average opening TRP of just 0.9.

Standalone, a week TRP of 1.4 is nice considering a new show but is actually average for such a hyped show. In fact the startup ratings are even lower than Sanaya's last show Iss Pyaar ko Kya Naam Doon which had recorded TRP of 1.7 in week of its launch.

It could not even match steps with another similarly puffed up show Saraswatichandra, which not only managed a decent TRP of 2.1 but defeated Bade Achhe Lagte Hain in TRPrace in its first week of run. Comparing it with other recent launches Badalte Rishton Ki Dastaan and Bani – Ishq da Kalma had managed a TRP of 1.6 in their opening week. The show fails to impress on this accord as well.

Sony TV had betted high on Sanaya Irani for role of Chhanchhan with anticipation to grab maximum eyeballs aka to her immense popularity. The entire show promotions revolved around her to get the best out of her Star Power. Expectations were that show average should range in between 1.9 to 2.

Nevertheless, it's just a week after launch and one should be hopeful knowing that Sony TV' currently most successful show Bade Achhe Lagte Hain had also faired an opening average of 1.38. Average TRP's for the show can also be attributed to stiff competition at 9:00 pm with cult shows Diya Aur Baati Hum airing on Star Plus and Zee TV' Pavitra Rishta.

Another reason could be the male lead of the show. Sanaya's chemistry with her male leads Mohit Sehgal and Barun Sobti from her previous shows was brilliant and pivotal to shows success. Probably we, as audience, were expecting yet another rocking chemistry right from day 1 which regrettably is missing in the show at present. Her lead in this show,Farhan Khan is a major letdown as of now due to his dialogue delivery.

We hope he shapes up to the task, pretty fast otherwise the lumber of making the scene work will rests heavily on Sanaya's shoulders. Moreover with cute pets, witty dialogues, fiery chemistry between veterans Sanaya and Supriya; it will be too early to rest your hopes. We hope there are some interesting twists and turns lined up in future to avoid it making a clich Saas Bahu drama and pull together a soaring trp for the show. Addressing the key points..
the TRPs of SC - it comes at 7.30 pm. A slot which literally has 0 competition compared to 9.00 pm 🥱 I always wondered why SP didn't slot SC at 8 pm and thought that they were scared its TRPs would suck and would have to be pulled down.
thus the lackluster time slot where it could survive until it can find its feet..

Also that with the reach of SP and for SP it is not good enough TRPs..

In case of IPK if it managed 1.7 even on SP then indeed CC is faring quite well with 1.4 when it is on Sony as well as slotted at 9.00 pm the most competitive time slot on TV right now..

anyway FK has improved and will hopefully brush up in the coming weeks. And wish the show all the very best and hope it attains a decent TRP and makes people watch something with a brain behind it instead of mindless regressive crap like the other TRP raker at the time (mind boggles as to what people sees in that 🤔)

Sunera👏, thanks for saying all the thoughts that were gunning through my head as I was reading the article. the only other thing I thought of was that the main draw for SC (as far as I was concerned) was SLB. I only tuned in to that show because of his name and to be honest didn't see a complete episode until the end of last week. Anyway the story is picking up ans Sony are promoting it heavily so hopefully the TRP's will only go upwards.
