Hello folks. This is Niki here.
Been mostly active on Twitter so haven't been here in IF for sometime. With the narrative shaping up so differently, I wanted to put them to words. Here's a little perspective on Gitya. Would love your views!!
In today's episode Adi is in a flutter isn't he? How comfortably he began to talk about Vancouver to Ginni when Surpreet and Tayiji were right there. For a private person, he didn't even care about their presence. It is like he is blind to anyone not Ginni. Others don't matter and he doesn't care. Ginni is there and it is she he is talking to. His entire manner was changed, casual, teasing and relaxed.
Ginni is almost like his haven, his home and nothing else matters. Is it just her saving him from the accident? No. The roots go way back.
Here's going back a few tracks..... To the day Ginni rescued Adi from the accident. He was vulnerable that day. She could have left him there.
For all he did to her, she should have never bothered. But she did. She made a choice and that choice kicked off a series of other events.
Adi did what he always does- gave payment. The story should have been over. But Ginni made another choice and pursued him to return the money. For the first time someone did something for him without any motive.
That's the reason why Adi keeps getting repetitive flashbacks of Ginni falling into his arms that night when she came to meet him and return the money. That day was different - someone did something different for him. It was no wonder that he started playing with her after that rather than keep his shrewd approach to get the Dhaba. He found somethin interesting about her and lie as he might, he was invested.
He was also lowkey attracted to her spirit. She doesn't give up, she doesn't bend. She doesn't compromise on her ethics. There weren't many such people in his life. And so Adi unknowingly gave some control of his life to her - when he agreed to sit behind her on her trolla. That day he agreed to let her lead, something he neve did with others. Even with Armaan, it is Adi who drives. This was the first time he let someone decide the pace of his life. Ginni was always special for him. That's why he was disappointed and hurt the most when the swap happened. She was special and beautiful and pure. She wasn't supposed to be unethical like this or betray him.
When Sam came, Adi had to suppress his attraction to Ginni. Otherwise it would have been a Gurkirat-Ambar-Surpreet situation. He could not bear it.
His harsh behaviour with her was also with the intention that she goes far away from him; probably good if she hates him. Because he knew deep inside that she was different and he may not like her yet but he reacted differently to her. That was dangerous.
But then they got married and Adi stopped at Grewal. He couldn't call her that. After all they were married.
But he was still stuck between two women; a situation he never wanted. He went down and Ginni, unexpectedly brought him back up. She instilled the belief in himself and he tried to fight his way out. Sam got exposes and was sent away. Then came the issue of their marriage.
Adi would have said nothing had Ginni never begun her we cannot live together lecture. He already accepted that they were married no matter the circumstances. But Ginni's apparent dismissal made him sing to her tune. He always does it to hide his own vulnerability towards her. He takes cues from her behaviour and shapes his.
But then things slowly started changing. She began interfering, he kept getting irritated but slowly his attraction that he had long suppressed made a comeback. She took care of him again, braved his anger and didn't give any thought about his warning of leaving him alone. Everyone else did but Ginni is unfazed. And Adi thawed.
The night when Ginni got drunk, brought out the palpable attractiveness of his wife. She was open, happy and welcoming. Not the reserved, close lipped Ginni he knew; but the happily dancing girl with hope in her eyes. She touched his soul and when her fingers held onto his shirt and later touched his lips, he had already tasted his heaven.
Next morning he was different. For that night had changed something in him. He had no excuses for self anymore. He saw her in that manner as a man sees a woman he wants. He cannot lie to himself anymore.
Further their argument regarding payment and gifts gave him another outlook. Ginni was not someone who cared for materialistic gifts. Actions mattered to her more than things. He understood that.
Also he lashed at her again but instead she gave him the best memory of his mother's birthday.
Then the accident happened and realization sank in that Ginni was his tabbar.
It was the sindoor scene that marked the shift. Adi had no rights before as Ginni was vocal about leaving. Ginni could not ask Adi to be her husband for she married him through a lie. But that day, when he put the sindoor on her, he was willing and well aware of whom he was putting it on. Ginni too did not resist.
That very moment they were husband and wife. He marked her as his and she accepted him. Immediately his gaze changed in the way he looked at her hairline dotted in red. She was his and he wanted to be hers. From that moment his manner towards her changed. No hesitation, no awkwardness. Just him and her. Ginni too takes cues from him and moves together, as if in a synchronized dance form where only they are there in the world.
Interestingly the present equation is a result of their situations.
Ginni never had anyone to care for her. She had to be the one taking care of all.
Adi never had anyone to care for; no one who would look at him for protection and love.
That's why they are two pieces that fit.
Ginni the giver found that Someone could give her love, adoption, protection and strength too.
Adi found that someone is there who can do anything for him and who looks at him for protection and strength.
Ginni immediately made a parallel between Adi and her father. She is slowly growing pliant under his attention. She lets him show, exercise and depict his right on her because she is his as much as he is hers. Even today when he pointed out the lizard, she could have gone to the other side. But what did she do?
She huddled close to Adi and enveloped herself in his arma as if seeking protection.
This brings us to Adi. Adi wants to protect his own. He failed with his mother but wants to succeed with Ginni. He sits by her when she sleeps and later sleeps by her to make sure she isn't disturbed by nightmares. He coddles her and is determined to find the shooter because Ginni is afraid.
Adi and Ginni are entwined now. For Ginni, this face of Adi is like a dream. She has a partner who supports her. She never expected to get this. She watches him with hope in her eyes. Adi is slowly bringing back the young girl behind the mature woman she had to become before her time. On the other hand, Adi watches her with a terrifying intensity of a drowning man lapping the sight of his only anchor in the storm. Ginni has successfully Stabilized him; in a way saved him from himself.
Adi is his own biggest enemy. He loses and fails because of it. He is bogged down by past. He is unable to move on and resists any effort to do so. He keeps gnawing at his wounds to keep them fresh and doesn't let anyone heal them. Ginni however is unfazed by his rebukes and forcefully puts the antiseptic on his wounds. It burns him immediately and he lashes out but slowly it heals too.
He has always failed.
But this time, he succeeds and in a way reaches the goon. This success train began from the Sam getting exposed episode. Why is he succeeding now? Simple. Because Ginni stands by him. She brilliantly cowes down his storm and clears his mind of his issues. Immediately he starts winning rather than losing.
Gitya are two beautifully carved individuals. They deserve each other because they chose to be selfless.
It started with the Shagun ka Coin. It was the coin of fate. Ginni gave it to Adi with a good intention. She had no hatred for him despite his actions. He realized it and kept it. It was the time for him to choose. With the coin came the challenge of Sam. Adi chose to sacrifice his freedom for a child that might not be his. He made a choice and Fate readied the reward for him.
He returned the coin to Ginni. It was time for her to meet the challenge of choosing between herself and her brother. Ginni chose to sacrifice her life for her brother and enter a marriage that was only a life of pain.
Ultimately their selfless nature gifted them each other. Had Adi not been selfless, Ginni would not have married him. Ginni was his reward.
Had Ginni not been selfless in front of her brother's situation she would not have swapped. Also had she not been a good person, she would not have tried to expose Sam. This loving face of Adi is her reward.
