Sahara One set to unfold Kohinoor's mystery! Is the 'Kohinoor' diamond with the British a fake? Is the 'Kohinoor' still in India? The questions have been raised by Sahara One Television's new suspense thriller titled by the name of the coveted stone itself. The Cinevistaas' produced entertainer, starring Kuljeet Randhawa, Ankur Nayyar, Amit R Sadh and Manish Wadhwa, hits the small screen on September 5, and claims that a sole survivor knows the mystery of Kohinoor. |
"Kohinoor brings with it mysticism, numerology, astrology and astrophysics. Besides its thrill, it also has some moments of emotion between the main characters. Visually also the story moves to various places - famous historical places to the contemporary Page 3 crowds, from intense mental journeys through legends and stories to real life drama," said producer of the serial, Sunil Mehta. 'Kohinoor starts-off with Kunal Singh Rathore, a businessman in Mumbai trying to reach the protagonist, Irawati Kohli just before he is killed. Fate brings Irawati into the forefront, to try and unravel the secret that Kunal Singh had left behind. All clues move in one direction, and the search for the precious stone -The Kohinoor - begins. Kuljeet Randhawa, who has also featured on Special Squad on Star One, and plays central character Iravati in the serial, said: "I play a woman who takes her own decisions, but at the same time, is also vulnerable in the face of threats, dangers and circumstances that has never been a part of her milieu. The character is a child-like woman, something that I have never tried. It has not been easy essaying this role, but at the same time it was very interesting, and I really enjoyed it." Amit Sadh, whose heart is set on Iravati in the serial, is trying to convince the lady that his he is her only Kohinoor, and she should stop running after the 'Kohinoor' diamond. "I'm sure this will do it for Sahara," he says. There are also other interesting characters like Inspector Shinde (Ajinkya Deo), who believes that Iravati has a link with a murder he is investigating, and a villain Kaali (Manish Wadhwa), who is a killer with a heart, but a puppet in his master's hands. Though Mehta is not ready to divulge more details about the serial, he promises that this is not going to be a never-ending saga like other 'saas-bahu' serials. Sahara One is pitching the serial against Star Plus' Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Sony's Ye Meri Life Hai. But channel head (Marketing), Rajeev Chakrabarti, feels that though its difficult to change the media habits of people, they will surely find an audience for their thriller, which is 'different' from others. Now, Sahara bosses are keeping their fingers crossed that after the success of women-oriented serials Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon Ki.. and Hare Kkaanch ki Choodiyan, their next project is also going to strike a chord with the audience. |

MUMBAI: As the legendary Kohinoor diamond remains shrouded in mystery; Sahara One Television is leaving no stones unturned to arouse curiosity around their new show titled Kohinoor, which is slated to go on air on 5 September at 10 pm.
The first phase of the marketing campaign was unleashed on 16 August with teaser hoardings all over the country flaunting the question - "Is the Kohinoor diamond still in India?" and "Do the British have the fake Kohinoor diamond?
The second phase of the campaign will hit the roads on 22 August (Monday), wherein the protagonists of show and the launch date will be revealed.
The campaign will hit with close to one million posters across 20 cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Ludhiana, Ahmedabad, Kolkatta, Indore, Lucknow, Kanpur, Pune and Surat. Almost 450 outdoor sites in key metros and mini metros will rouse the curiosity of the common man. BEST buses and railway stations across Mumbai have been branded with Kohinoor. Apart from that, two million flyers have been pasted in 13 cities including Mumbai, Baroda, Ludhiana, Ahmedabad, Kolkatta, Pune and Surat. Sahara One will also be conducting a road show across 10 cities (Mumbai, Nagpur, Delhi, Chandigarh, Pune, Surat, Ludhiana, Ahmedabad, Baroda and Kolkatta) over 10 days, which will eventually lead up to an on-air contest on the channel. The road show will kick start on 22 August. And as if that was not all, a special music video has also been created around Kohinoor.
Alongside outdoor, the show will also be promoted across the Internet, cable, print and all radio channels. Cross channel promos on NDTV, Aaj Tak, ETV Marathi, ETV Bengali etc are also on the Kohinoor agenda. The show will also be promoted across malls in various cities. Direct mailers to the media fraternity across Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi and Kolkatta will be sent out via various newspapers and magazines. A blog on Rediff (http://kahangayakohinoor.rediffblogs.com) has been created, wherein surfers post their comments on what they think about the Kohinoor that is suddenly being talked about. Promotional activity around the show will also be seen across Yahoo! India from 22 August.
Speaking exclusively to Indiantelevision.com, Sahara One Television head - marketing Rajeev Chakrabarti says, "The idea behind this marketing campaign was to create intrigue and curiosity around the Kohinoor diamond and resurface it by making it the talking point among people." The half hour show Kohinoor will be aired at 10 pm from Monday to Thursday on Sahara One. Once the show launches on 5 September, the third phase of the marketing campaign will kick start from 6 September. However, Chakrabarti remained tight lipped on what the third phase of the campaign will encompass. The channel is pitching the show against Star Plus' Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Sony's Ye Meri Life Hai and Zee's Time Bomb (Monday), Rabba Ishq Ka Hove (Tuesday), Rooh (Wednesday) and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge (Thursday). With television stalwarts like Kahaani... in the 10 pm slot, only time will tell whether Sahara One's efforts around Kohinoor will pay off or not. Till then... the buzz around the show continues. |
A special role in Kohinoor
Kuljeet Randhawa, who plays Shaina on Special Squad will play the lead on Sahara One's forthcoming serial, Kohinoor. Randhawa began as a Gladrags model and then worked on the serial Cats that was aired on Sony.
She was also a part of Guns&Roses. Of course like always the fact that Randhawa had stepped out of the Special Squad cast gave rise to many rumours the foremost one being that there had been many differences between her and Gauri Pradhan.
this is such a stupid thing..why and what for will they have differences😡
Of course, Randhawa does not say anything on that front and is even reluctant to reval anything about her role in Kohinoor too. "Wait and watch" is all that she is willing to reveal.
She briefly made a statement that she liked the idea of Kohinoor when she heard it and since she was not doing anything else, she decided to take up the project.
