To me the problem with the Octopus songs is that the makers are trying to sell romance rather than music. At least the packaging suggests as much.
And I think that there is actually a huge enough and engaged enough fan base that is involved in the romantic aspect which is being tapped by Octopus to get visibility.

Not sure how I feel about viewing Arunita as a romantic heroine. Somehow, I would rather that she only sang and others danced for her.

So even though Octopus is giving her work and visibility, maybe it is the wrong kind. She is at risk of compromising her most valuable asset - fans who love her for her singing.

I see your point, and I agree that there is a risk.

But I guess so early in their careers she may not have much bargaining power to choose what work she takes up. This contract was signed a week or two before the finale - perhaps they hand not even announced the final 6. So the bargaining power was even lower. Moreover, this is probably seen as something that builds the discography. If one or two songs become big hits, that can only bode well for them.

Having said that, I do believe that more songs solo or with singers not called Pawandeep Rajan are required. The way this Jitul Boro song is being released, I hope there are more in the pipeline.

That is a possibility, of course. Then it only means that my view and her view don't match. But then my view doesn't really matter at all in the larger scheme of things.

No, I don't think she could have explored opportunities without being in Mumbai and Octopus gives her that advantage.
It is not the decision that I find fault with. I was just stating that it is, perhaps, getting irritating for some of us to see her as a heroine rather than a singer. Also, it is increasingly like she is losing her individual identity and cannot be seen alone on camera. Even the Navaratri Special is a repetition of the charade. None of the 2 get individual screen space!

So, I am ok with the fact that she is working with the project. I just find it difficult to digest her on screen romantic persona. I also have a sinking feeling that it is not just me but other hard core fans too who are thus affected. But then I am reading behaviour not opinions. 😃

Sure, understood.

I am just optimistic, that's all. Optimistic that this is just a pathway to greater things. As far as singing prowess is concerned, I believe it is crystal clear that she is head and shoulders above everyone else - everyone. I am sure the experts in the industry also notice, and there will be enough of those who will want to sign her up for her voice alone - like Jitul Boro did.
