The Times Food Guide and Nightlife Awards 2012 honoured Mumbai's best in the business.
British novelist Virginia Woolf famously said, "One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well." If you think of it, food wields quite some power and so, deserves recognition, too. And Tuesday night brought moments of fame for the best in the food and beverage industry, where Sanjay Dutt was the chief guest. The witty master of ceremonies Ash Chandler kickstarted the evening led by foodie author Rashmi Uday Singh.
The ceremony, also known as the Oscars of food awards, began with the unveiling of the three Food Guides for 2012 by Bollywood superstar Dutt, wife Maanayata and Vineet Jain, MD - Times Group, Sanju then gave away awards for winners of the 'Best Indian'. After that, it was a roll call of honour in celebration of Mumbai's best restaurants, bars and nightclubs, resto-bars and coffee bars, confectioners, caterers and chocolatiers.
Proud chefs, restaurateurs and hoteliers, bartenders and wine experts came forth to accept their awards from a glam guest list that included film stars and filmmakers, beauty queens, models, TV actors, designers and business tycoons. Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Tusshar Kapoor, Prachi Desai, Neha Dhupia, Prateik, Amy Jackson, Shaina NC, Anushka Manchanda, Gulshan Grover, Sushama Reddy, Sonal Sehgal, Kainaat Arora, former Miss Indias Neha Hinge and Manasvi Mamgai, Juhi Parmar and Dabboo Ratnani were amongst those who gave away the other awards. Amy brought in her birthday at the event by cutting a cake, while a besotted Prateik and the guests sang for her.
The awards ceremony, as is the ritual, was followed by the finest dinner in all of Mumbai that night as the 2012 winners presented their signature dishes in special menus at attractive stalls. Held at the ITC Grand Central, Parel, the title sponsor of this glamorous gastronomical night were Seagram's Blender's Pride, the event sponsors were Kaff Appliances, beverage sponsor was Pepsi, supported by Kingfisher.
