B etter known as the Kaanta laga girl, Shefali Jari- wala will be the celebrity performer in the first episode of Boogie Woogie's new season. To be aired tonight, she has special memories of the show. Earlier, she was invited to judge Boogie Woogie just after the Kaanta laga music video had been released. She says, "It was the first time that I was invited on a TV show..the channel ran the repeat of my act many times. "I felt like a celebrity. This time I'm performing to celebrate their new season and 10 years of being a successful show." Since it's a Kids Champi- onship, she asked the little ones in her building their favourite song. Their unanimous choice was Krazy kiya re. She's dancing to that number. Her kind of album Early last year, Jariwala had signed a contract with T-Series , YBR Records. She says, "Per- formers from different fields have been signed for this exclu- sive boutique label. Sultan Khan sahib has been signed from the classical genre. I can't reveal anything more." Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru head the label. Jariwala informs, "We worked together for Kaanta laga. The new album consists of seven songs. Radhika and Vinay are convinced that I can sing, but I'm diffident. I've lost my voice doing long hours of riyaaz." Why has the album been delayed? She replies, "There has been a lull in the music industry. Besides, it's a slow creative process to make original music. Catchy and simple tunes are dif- ficult to create." She adds, "They're writing songs that suit my personality. I'm completely involved in every stage of the album. It should release in December." She has also been learning sal- sa and belly dancing. "I had gained weight. This helps me to get into shape," she pouts. Big screen dreams Recollecting her Kaanta Laga shoot, she says she was very raw then..and had never faced a camera. Are films on her agenda? She replies, "I'm hearing many film scripts. I already have an identi- ty in the pop industry I have to be . better in whatever I take on next. I'm confused about films, I can't identify with serious roles and find comedy ones flippant." And TV? "I can't see myself draped in a sari or doing bahu roles," she insists. On her own She is married to Harmeet Gulzar. The couple have been in the news with Jariwala having moved back to her parents' home recently. But she refuses to comment on the split with her husband. In the last three years, she says, "I've earned big bucks doing stage shows. It's fun because it's interactive and one gets to travel. I'm surprised at my popularity in places like Japan and Fiji Islands." She is an IT professional and had the marks to appear for a campus interview with Infosys and Wipro. "I would hardly study but still top my class. I enjoy studying and will do an MBA later. "Education is something one can always fall back upon," she ends.
