Helen's maiden TV appearance on 'Boogie Woogie
Mumbai - Helen was the uncrowned queen of cabaret in Indian cinema. Now pushing 60, the sensuous dancing diva who leads a reclusive life as the wife of Salim Khan will be seen making a TV appearance on Sony's 'Boogie Woogie'.
Not only does Helen serve as star-judge on the show, she even performs a jig at the end of the show to be aired Friday.
Sony Entertainment is understandably thrilled to get the undisputed queen of the shimmy on its show.
'It was quite our luck that after Urmila Matondkar we got the legendary Helen. She had a great time with co-hosts Javed and Naved Jaffrey. The show and its young contestants seemed to bring out the fun side of the great danseuse. On the episode Helen takes great pains to explain the evolution of the cabaret in Hindi cinema,' said Anupama Mandloi of the channel.
This is Helen's first appearance on the small screen. Earlier, another cabaret star, Bindu, had appeared on 'Boogie Woogie'.
The young female contestants will be seen having a great time jiving to some of Helen's most popular songs including 'Piya tu ab to aaja', 'Mehbooba mehbooba' and 'Aa jaan-e-jaan'.
'And to top it all, Helen herself jives to her perennial favourite 'Yeh mera dil pyar ka deewana' at the end of the show,' said Mandloi.
''Boogie Woogie' intends to host a series of celebrity specials in the coming weeks before allowing the primary focus of interest, the young contestants, to boogie-battle to the top.'
