Dia Mirza - Kunal split

An industry insider tells us, "The main reason is the Gupta – Lakhia fracas over Dia that angered Kunal. She was dating Lakhia before Kunal. Lakhia was opposed to Dia acting in Shootout at Lokhandwala but was forced to accept it on producer Sanjay Gupta's insistence. When the final copy was ready, the Ek Ajnabee director chopped off a major portion of Dia's scenes citing the film's length. Dia was shocked when she heard of it and informed Sanjay Gupta, who rushed to Dia's help and instructed Lakhia to incorporate a few if not all of her edited scenes. This was followed by a tu tu main main between Gupta and Lakhia. Gupta who was impressed by Lakhia's working style on Shootout at Lokhandwala decided to give him the boot. Kunal seems to have taken rumours about Gupta's special relationship with Dia very seriously. The couple had many fights over it."

A friend close to Dia told us. "She's no longer seeing Kunal. There was basically a small misunderstanding between her and Kunal which snowballed into something unexpected. One cannot entirely say it was because of her Shootout at Lokhandwala experience but there were some other issues as well."

Dia Mirza and Apoorva Lakhia got together after she broke up with producer beau Bunty Walia. Apoorva was, in those days, was busy writing Ek Ajnabee after the debacle of his maiden film, Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost. Dia helped him with the script but the relationship ended before the shooting could start. The role was given to Perizaad Zorabian.

Though they never openly admitted to the relationship, both were often seen coming for events, together, hand in hand. When asked whom she felt was the sexiest man in Bollywood, she mentioned Kunal's name followed by Hrithik's. When the first stories of linking both of them together began, Dia said, "I don't mind being linked to a handsome hunk like Kunal." The Hat Trick star on the other hand always maintained a diplomatic stand and never denied nor admitted to seeing her but always said he enjoyed her company.
