Putin : 'We have a lot of interest in Indian films"

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday praised ‘Bollywood’ and said that Indian films are most popular in the country in a media briefing ahead of the BRICS Summit. When asked about offering incentives to BRICS member states for filming in Russia, President Putin responded,’ Russian President Putin said, “If we look at BRICS member states, I think in this country Indian films are most popular. We have a special TV channel with Indian movies being shown on it round the clock. We have a lot of interest in Indian films. We hold the BRICS film festival. This year Moscow International Film Festival introduces films from BRICS nations. We are positive that if Indian films are interested then we will find some common ground and promote them in Russia. Pharmaceuticals will also be a good undertaking. I am ready to talk to the Prime Minister of India and we will come to terms and there will be no difficulty…”

That's nice to hear. I wish he would have mentioned which stars are most popular in Russia though.

Lol I was scolded for not having any post that's a single sentence so I thought I would humor the complaint and try this out.

In fact, I really wanted to tell Putin ji that he should name which stars he feels resonate the most with the Russian public. I have a strong feeling that Aishwarya Rai and Deepika Padukone both top the list, but I would need Putin ji to confirm this himself by screening film festivals where their films are constantly broadcast so anyone not exposed to them also becomes converted into their fans and worshippers. On my advice, he may also add Preity Zinta, Kajol, and Sridevi to the list.

Once this is successfully done, I would recommend more actresses like Juhi Chawla, Madhuri Dixit, Urmila Matondkar, and the one and only Rekha ji but I will wait for Putin ji to start with Aishwarya and Deepika, otherwise there is simply no reason to even bother.

In all seriousness, I was looking online to see what Indian movies are most liked in Russia besides the usual Disco Dancer. Apparently Hema Malini's Seeta aur Geeta is a real favorite in Russia for several generations thanks to constantly playing on TV. Our Aish has representation with Mistress of Spices (one of my personal favs). PK is popular too.

SRK is apparently the new favorite, replacing Raj Kapoor. My Name is Khan was huge in Russia and so was Pathaan.

Some films have worked or Russians might know but not close to the ones mentioned above.

You know it's someone's PR is going wild as nobody has come close to any of those stars popularity in Russia let alone replace them.
