And while it's easy to say the govt should provide better education ,the reality is that the govt doesn't. The public school system in developed countries like the UK and the US is shit. India is a poor third world country riddled with corruption . The govt ain't gonna educate nobody the way you think it should. Not anytime soon.

I don't have any agenda. Personally I stand to lose , I don't get any quota while others around me do. But the world doesn't revolve around me. Or you. Acknowledging reality is not an agenda.

even in the US whose affirmative action policies you spoke of, there are no quotas. smiley2And this is a country that can literally print money in trillions of dollars and have people buy their treasuries. There are grants and scholarships provided by governmental entities as well as by the schools themselves. And public school education up to high school is basically free. Why does India have to adopt the silliest commie ideas? ours is a country that needs to develop fast, not be mired by incompetent people.smiley2

public school system in the US is shit? Yes, that's true generally of inner-city schools. Not so for a large number of other public schools that send a chunk of their graduating class every year to the ivies. They might not compare to elite private schools but many are still good. And in many ways, they prepare people for the diversity we have today in organizations better than some private schools.

bottom-line, would you sacrifice anything for the SC/ STS? Like what?smiley2

One might not agree with affirmative action as a solution to casteism, but that doesn't mean you have to deny the issue itself.

boss, we are talking about need for reservations, not that casteism still exists.

But reading skills aren't your strong suit . Please what you have copy pasted from the internet and you ll see that the 10 year period applied only to reservation in legislatures ,like I had mentioned in my previous comment to you .

Why is it hard to debate someone as 'clueless' as me ? Clue me in with facts. It's easy. But only if you have facts 😁.

lol you denied that it was ever a 10 year thing. I just showed you that it applied for legislatures. Good you shifted your stand and acknowledged basic facts.smiley1

The other fact that is you brought up the US. Didnt you? All that affirmative action jazz. But do they have reservation quotas? So what was the point of that bull?smiley36

Hope we have clued you in with sufficient facts now. smiley2Now how about you present us with fact f your own- how many of you would give up anything to accommodate the reservation types? Or you expect meritorious people to make sacrifices? I am sure that's a very noble thing to do in some weird socialist circlessmiley2

People do not often realise how deep-rooted the concept of caste is in our country. It is honestly a privilege to not feel the heat of it in a caste obsessed population starting from the surname identification to taking pride in the legacy of the caste they belong to. It is not about why bring it in every sector, it is the hard facts, minimal or low presence even after all these years and even after all the attempts to empower, because over and above the institutional mechanisms supporting the empowerment of backward castes, the societal acceptance is still not there. The most basic example of it is marriages, we can speak of all big things but if you are not ready or open to marry a person belonging to certain castes and embrace it, then we still have a very long way to go. And trust me such marriages are a rarity. Otherwise all the 'caste doesn't matter' discussions we have in the country are superficial and limited to closed door discussions. The reality of discrimination is deeply seeped inside the human system.

Already blocked him/her after my first response. I come here to unwind, I do not enjoy getting into fights and if I get dragged into nonsense, I block the person. No actor/politician is worth my peace of mind. And I cannot stoop so low as to get personal with people over random public figures. Not interested.

The new and improved blocking feature is fantastic. Thanks, Vijay.

Lol the discussions here. smiley36 Speechless really. My poor poor utter corrupt and capitalist Govt cannot handle corruption or misuse of the system that all undeserving people are making the Dalit cards, so let’s demand removing the system itself. Too much work otherwise. smiley13smiley19 Problem is these countrymen, dalits, they are getting those 2 Cr.s jobs the Govt is creating every year while generals are being left out. smiley19 I agree. 10x2 = 20 cr. generals should have been employed in last 10 yrs. Abolish reservation, we’d see flood in employment. smiley41smiley40

Are reservations a solution for casteism? Imagine a 17-18 year old kid who has never heard of caste in his life but couldn't get admission into his dream college despite getting good rank while his SC friend gets into the college with 10 times his rank.. this only increases resentment in the mind of that kid. It doesnt really eradicate casteism but only increases it. Instead of reservation they should be provided with access to best schools and coaching so that they can compete equally with the so called privileged "upper caste" kid..Or atleast bring something like the creamy layer in SCs and STs so that the people who are in actual need of reservation benefit from it( Few people even protested against this as if introduction of creamy layer is going to benefit the general category lol). There's reservation for undergrad, postgrad, jobs and even promotion. Where does it stop?

Why don't these politicians get themselves treated in government hospitals with quota doctors? When it comes to our own kin, we want the best of doctors and teachers but for others, we are okay to compromise with merit in the name of representation.

Also why is there no reservation in army? Waha pe bhi lao na representation. Is it because we can't compromise with the safety of our country? Then why cant the same logic be applied to doctors who are handling the health care of our country or teachers who are educating our future generation? Can these things be compromised?

This time only quoting the last line of your post, Birdie:

Would y o u??? and w h a t??? Actually, these hypothetic questions with "should" and "would" give just the "armchair"-discussions done here.

Why not focus on "what had been done until now" and "what can we do" - as a government/ a society/ a group/an individual?' and then (SRK's most used words on the work-front:) "let's do".

I tell you why... for making changes, the needed decisions depend on interests and possibilities - and on the 'human factor' which generally encompasses all the flaws the decision-maker(s) has (have).
