It's so bloody meta in capturing 70s bollywood and current bollywood stereotypes such as awards being bought, actors hiding relationships under the garb of being "just friends", how nepotism makes it so easy for the star kids and not to forget all the special appearances. This is something that I can't imagine happening now or in near future.

I'd say the same about OSO, but that movie doesn't get nearly as much hate, lol. I loved it when it came out in 2007, but over the years, as I watched the old movies it was inspired by, I appreciated it even more.

Bollywood hadn’t seen anything like this since 1972. Sure, the acting might seem over the top to some, but I think it fits perfectly with the movie's overall theme. Kirron Kher's dialogues, Aish's running, Madhuri's dance and grace—this is the kind of movie that comes along once in a blue moon.

My only objection against the movie is calling it Devdas. It’s a beautiful movie and I dont mind anything there, as long as it’s not called Devdas. SLB should’ve named it something else and quoted it as ‘inspired by Devdas’. The story was changed beyond imagination. As a book lover I can take offense smiley36.

That's a fair point, and I haven't read the book. But wasn't the older version with Dilip Kumar also called Devdas? Maybe SLB was more inspired by that movie than the book.

Older version was relatively closer to the book than the new one. The new one makes you wonder why it’s even called Devdas. smiley22 I liked Dev-D as well, Abhay Deol’s portrayal. smiley36

This Devdas was a grandeur which the book was not, not even close. This movie though needed a theatrical experience. It was grand and fantasy, everyone was beautiful. smiley42

Bahurani is a legend right in your eyes? No one can do any wrong 😑? Madhuri was better than her.

Bimal Roy's Devdas is much much better. And closer to the book like Prerna said. But I keep watching Bhansali's one to see Aishwarya in sarees. SRK was unbearable in it. He looked good though in the brothel scenes. Silsila song was dumb, the whole embarassing thing with the lamp she lit for a guy she played with as a 5 yr old but she looked amazing with wavy hair on.

I’m not a fan of the movie but the songs were a craze here in Paris. Devdas was the first ever Indian movie poster I saw here. SRK and Aish were very popular then in my school.

Congratulations on completing 22 years (already!!!) and for taking Indian cinema to pan world when social media was nonexistent 🫡

I think the greatest BW movie of the 21st century. Bhansali at his peak with the most stunning and talented cast assembled.
