With 28 flops & not a single hit in 23 years, here's BMCM producers box office report cardGaurang ChauhanEEAT

Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s latest action film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and produced by veteran film producer Vashu Bhagnani and his son, actor-producer Jackky Bhagnani of Pooja Entertainment.

Vashu Bhagnani has been in the business for over three decades and has backed close to 35 films since 1995.

However, one look at his filmography as a producer and it’s quite strange to notice that in the last 23 years i.e. since 2001, Vashu’s production house Pooja Entertainment has failed to deliver a single box office hit.

In the said period, Vashu and later Jackky have together backed 29 films out of which only one has turned out to be a success of some sorts, the 2011 film F.A.L.T.U. starring Jackky Bhagnani and directed by Remo D’Souza.

Apart from that, the remaining 28 films from 2001 to 2023 have been either flops or disasters. Let’s take a look at the list:

2. Deewaanapan (2001) - Flop

3. Om Jai Jagadish (2002) - Disaster

The Initial Hits

Vashu Bhagnani’s debut film as a producer was Govinda and Karisma Kapoor starrer Coolie No. 1. It was a super hit at the box office and became the sixth biggest grosser of 1995.

It was followed by Hero No. 1 starring Govinda and Karisma Kapoor which was the seventh biggest grosser of 1997.

Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya starring Salman Khan, Kajol, Arbaaz Khan and Dharmendra became the fifth biggest grosser of 1998.

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan starring Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda was the fourth biggest grosser of 1998.

Biwi No. 1 starring Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Sushmita Sen, Anil Kapoor and Tabu was the second biggest grosser of 1999.

And Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai starring Tusshar Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan became Pooja Entertainment’s last hit. It was declared a super hit at the box office.

In short, out of their first seven releases as a producer, six were huge box office hits and only one flopped, Abhishek Bachchan’s Tera Jadoo Chal Gayaa (2001).

Now, with Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, the makers are confident of delivering an all-time blockbuster as Vashu claimed in a video shared by Jackky that the action entertainer will do Rs 1100 crore at the worldwide box office.

Probably living off the money from the 90s hits. I won't say Vashu or Jackie are some mis understood geniuses but most of time it is that people in cinema have 1 hit for ever few flops and it keeps them going. But it seems they haven't had a hit since 2011. They have goodwill it seems
