Decided to give the movie a chance due to the surprisingly positive reviews here but was disappointed. There were so many things about the movie which were so jarring. *Spoilers ahead *

Dhanush happily marrying her fiance in one scene with sara dancing all around and in the very next scene he is suddenly in love with Sara? Then the depiction of whole mental condition of Sara was so atrocious. Dhanush witnessing Saras condition and seeing her talking to empty space and breaking into a extended joyful dance coz his competition is not real😐. Why do directors pick such sensitive issues when they do not have the caliber to deal with it... Bringing in such issues just to treat it like comedy for most part. I stopped watching when imaginary AK brings imaginary goat to the hospital ward.

Just finished watching Atrangi re.

Spoilers ahead

Positive things: The story is beautiful. I think the message they gave that people with mental disorder can recover with proper medication as well as emotional support. Not just Vishu and his psychiatrist friend helped Rinku but also the other doctor friends of theirs in the hostel. All of them were kind and patient with her. After a long time I loved A.R.Rahman's music. The performances of Dhanush, Sara, Akshay were amazing. The climax scene of Akshay and Sara was the best scene in the entire movie. Sara's role was difficult one but still she managed to do well in most of the scenes. Dhanush as usual was excellent and so was Akshay in his cameo. As he is actually Rinku's father in the movie, they made him look little old and aged in the movie.

Negative things: Some of the anti-hindu dialogues should have been removed from the movie. There was no need to add them. I found it kinda weird whenever Rinku used to call her father Sajjad her lover and imagined him feeling jealous and insecure seeing Vishu. Also, Vishu falling in love with Rinku phase was rushed.

Overall, the movie and the songs are really amazing. It would rate it 3.5/5.

One doubt:

Why did they make Akshay look old in her current imagination?

She was seeing Akshay as her lover from a long time, so did he in her imagination slowly started ageing??

Otherwise, in her mom dad scenes (her stories), they have made him look a lot younger... I was thinking, she thought he was her lover and she her mother, so why did he age in her mind? In her perspective, it was only 6-7 years, since they met, isn’t it?

I found it an average movie and liked it. After a long time watched a movie that had some story.

Sara's acting was literally bad. She can't cry at all while Dhanush was fabulous.

Spoiler:

The love story of Sara and Dhanush could have been better had they not make her have a mental condition because even though she had, they never told her about it and she got cured of her own. Didn't make sense and till the interval, the story was going good. Loved the climax scene and they could have shown her family being arrested for the murder but they ignored it.

Caught this one.

I had no intention of watching it after my ears were made to bleed with the Sara's constant "Chakachak Chakking". But I caught the clip on youtube where Dhanush takes Sara from the engagement scene, and I got curious.

I have to say, it was a really nice film! Felt like it was a decent watch. Dhanush was definitely the star of this one, and carried out all of the vast emotions with his scenes. I think this is my second film with him after Ranjhana, and I definitely see the hype.

Now Sara....I lost all hope with this one after seeing those clips from that LAK2 movie. But she was pretty good here. It was a role that she could not sleep-walk through, and she definitely put in the work. Was she stellar? No, not by a mile. But she held her own, and especially so at the ending scene with Akshay at the train station. I actually felt really really sad there😆I definitely have some renewed expectations from her.

And now this song Chakachak. Whoever comes out with the PR for these films and songs needs to be fired. Before the movie, the song grated my nerves and I never wanted to hear it again (plus that visual of her twerking on a ladder😕). After the movie, it's been in my head because it's just a really sweet tune and now I have the background of the story to go with it. It's astounding how marketing can screw up the perception of a single song lol

Aanand Rai lost it with Zero but this movie was pretty enjoyable, not sure why he went crazy with the former's story.
