It feels weird to say this but i have cerebral palsy, owning everything i am😆. But i don't have as severe case as anushka's in zero. I just have left sided weakness and spastic left leg with limping, i think Anushka's potrayal was ok. Severity can be quite different. But i don't remember much but people do rave about kalki's potrayal in margarita with a straw which i haven't seen yet.

Schizophrenia is usually auditory hallucinations, not visual. I assumed it was more like bits of dissociative identity and delusional disorder. Tbh, some parents didn't really make much sense

It's a complex chronic ptsd where she is coping through maladaptive daydreaming.

Schizophrenia was Bipasha in Madhoshi.

DID was Vidya in Bhool Bhulaiya.

Delusional disorder is what most fans on the forum and BW stars suffer from.

She did have components of dissociation, dissociation is just separation of mental/ behavioural processes from rest of psychic activity. Sorry if it sounds like a boring psychiatry lesson 😆

I don't expect a Christopher Nolan kinda tie ups and putting it all together in a perfect way..honestly I was surprised with the twist itself..because I dint expect it to be so experimental..And I always love how Anand L Rai tries to make his movies so colourful and pretty and never takes himself too seriously and yet gets the laughs and cries ...the movie had its heart in the right place...Dhanush absolutely has mastered the art of playing intense roles and tugging the heart strings so hard..uff so many of his scenes deserve a separate fanbase lol.

But I think even Sara performed very well..I don't know who else could have played Rinku honestly... she made me cry as well in the end ..❣️❣️❣️ I did watch this movie more than once..and I find the songs more and more beautiful with every passing viewing.

I liked it more on second viewing, the first time , I was confused how Vishu fell so quickly in love, but someone said the movie wasn't about Vishu falling in love but rinku, and with that the narrative made so much more sense. I think the covid shutdown affected the movie a lot, it would have been more colorful and outdoor shoots etc like ranjhaana. they were supposed to shoot in Bihar when the first shutdown happened. but despite that Anand l rai did a great job, he extracted such a good performance from Sara . and the editing was so perfect with the scenes with akshay. it must have been so difficult to shoot. I love all his movies, even zero's first half was perfect.

I think it was love at first sight (or may be attraction) for vishu . He was crying in the train because of the sudden marriage .

That dance of happiness when Rinku agreed to accompany him to Chennai says it all n he blown up with the chaka chak dance as mandy said he really enjoyed her dance 😆

yes absolutely..it would have been even more nail biting if they dint reveal it to us till the end about Akshay's character, like Sixth sense. Akki also - I mean he did have enigmatic presence in all of the sequences..which is what was required for this role..I love the picturization of Tere Rang so much..I know it looks wierd to see Akki and Sara romancing, but the frames are so enticing and beautiful..!

Long review ahead. I watched the film two days ago and took this time to formulate my feelings into writing.

I will start off by saying this:

Aanand L Rai’s Raanjhanaa is one of my favourite Bollywood films of all time. I have feelings about the music and themes of that film that could probably fill pages for an entire novel, but I am just not articulate enough for that😒. Having said that, when I saw ALR was once again collaborating with AR Rahman and Dhanush for Atrangi Re, I honestly didn’t know where to set my expectations. Zero left me underwhelmed and I am not that gaga over the TWM series, although they are enjoyable. Also, had not really enjoyed any ARR album in a long time,....probably not since Tamasha in 2015. 😔

After having seen Atrangi Re, I am very happy to report that it did manage to recreate a large part of that Raanjhanaa magic for me ⭐️😳. The emotional beats of this film hit so HARD, that I was completely ready to ignore its flaws and emotionally invest in the characters. While it doesnt top Raanjhanaa for me, I definitely think this will be one of those films that would stay with me for a very long time.❤️

Yes, Rinku and Vishu falling in love may seem premature, but how good a job does Dhanush do in selling us the romance in that one scene where Vishu is confessing his feelings to Rinku in Tamil?? That intensity, uff! You also have to take into account the screenplay, that depicts Rinku and Vishu connecting with each other without showing them interacting directly. Take Rait Zara Si for example. In it Vishu doesn't make a SINGLE eye contact with Rinku, who is just shown everywhere in his vicinity going about her usual way. But it doesn't take much for us to understand that the song literally is a depiction of Vishu's emotional state where he has fallen in love with this girl who has consumed his thoughts and is now roaming rent free in his head whether he likes it or not 😆. The montage where Rinku enters Vishu's room for the first time is another one. She just takes in her surroundings, scanning through Vishu's belongings: the trophies collected over years of hardwork, the neatly stacked linens in his closet- a testament to his disciplined living, his old photo- a glimpse into his humble roots. It is oddly intimate. By the time Vishu returns to his room in the evening to find Rinku sitting on the floor wearing his dhoti kurta, Rinku has already gotten to know Vishu at a deeper level, just by spending a quiet day in his room, all by herself. Its all brilliant and poetic and I love it 😳⭐️

Sara and Akki are also so good together in both versions of their chemistry. As Rinku and Sajjad they were so endearing. And Akki's gummy grin which has grated on our nerves in so many of his comedies is heartwarming and magical here! I especially loved when he flashes it at Rinku when she is like "70 rupay ka chowmein khaye" and he says "Main bhi yehi soch raha tha😃😃"...Its like with Sajjad, Rinku feels like a kid at Disneyland and he is the doting guardian who fulfills all of her crazy whims, buys her all the treats from the candystall and takes her on all the rides.😆 The makers did a brilliant job in styling Sara and Akki in the portions where they are playing the mom and dad. They manage to de-age Akki by a good 15 years, and make Sara look more mature and elegant in those sarees and salwar kameez. How STUNNING is Tere Rang?? Its stuff of romance, drama and theatrics that I LOVE seeing in Bollywood films. (Also ALR has a thing of the guy/girl applying purple colour on their lover's face. Happened in Raanjhanaa, happened in Zero and happens here too!!).

The trio, when they interact together in Little Little are also awfully cute together!! 😆 I loved the back and forth Rinku does between Sajjad and Vishu (she looks darn cute in that woolly cap on her head here!), the dance off between Vishu and Sajjad and the spontaneous kiss on the cheek that Rinku gives to Vishu in the end of it!

I would also like to commend ALR's casting choice of Sara in the film. Its the same way I feel about Sonam in Raanjhanaa. Both Sara and Sonam are limited actresses but their roles in their respective films were so THEM. Yes, Sara struggles with the emotional scenes towards the end of the film, but I wouldn't take any other actress for this role even if they acted better. The obnoxiousness, the spontaneity, the vulnerability that Rinku has was totally Sara, and ALR absolutely knew what he was doing when he cast her for this role.

And all these great screen moments really come from the creative partnership between the filmmaking and musical teams of the film. Like, I dont know who to praise first. Should I say ALR knows how to use ARR's music?? Or should I say ARR and Irshad Kamil know how to compose for ALR's love stories?? Because in their collaborations music and storytelling work so synergistically its hard to differentiate one from the other. Great stuff really, and an example of how magical and riveting filmy music combined with storytelling can be if the makers have their heart in the right place and understand each other's vision.❤️

PS- yeah yeah the film is ridiculous and the handling of serious issues like mental health is WILDLY inappropriate in places, but I wont obsess over it on this post.😆

I watched the movie 3 days ago. Granted, it is not a masterpiece, the "story" gets convoluted at times and they offer no definitive resolution for the issues, rather they leave all the loose ends up to the audience to figure out how/why or ignore because it is just not plausible. The film is being described as a Romance BUT in my opinion this movie is more of a social drama or an attempt to show mental health issues and the power and patience it takes to love someone afflicted, with some action to give it flare. Basically, that is what the audience will walk away with after watching this, not romance BUT human issues and relationships. Professionals in the mental health field may find it simplistic or they may try to over analyze the delivery, BUT they must keep in mind that this is a movie, made to reach general audiences therefore they take artistic liberties. Real life or reality is much more complicated...

The 3-three main leads share the spotlight in perfect synchronization and the movie is spread out evenly, something I found refreshing. AK played his part with the same flair he has in many of his films, you get the feeling that the man arrives on the set at 8 a.m. goes thru the process of filming and by 4 p.m. he is finished, he is a pro at pumping these out. Dhanush has equally played his part with the usual assurance and charm he displays in many of his films. Therefore, if for nothing else, fans can watch and will enjoy the movie just looking at their favorite playing a comfortable routine role. Neither one stressed much doing their work on this film.

As for Sara I think she did a very good job, she was not intimidated holding her own between two protagonists who have the potential to outshine others in a film, again I will stress that they all shared the screen perfectly. I like her acting; she played her role well. I think she is talented and has potential.

Overall, while not an impressive piece of work, it is still a very watchable movie, the performers do not lose any credit for the flaws in the script. A script that while having room for improvement is still a step in the right direction to continue dialog on mental health issues.
