I cannot imagine him doing Agneepath, War, Baaghi type films either. A lusty invader like Khilji is out of question.

Leaving OTTness aside, Ranbir otherwise also hardly manages to look menacing or evil. He has a certain cute type face like his dad and cannot look menacing, evil or ruthlessly aggressive.

His anger also looks normal which we see in everyday life. Not the explosive type required in action films or battle scenes.

It would be a surprise if Ranbir ever manages to pull off playing a ruthless evil villain. He seems more suitable for a charming type or obsessed lover type villain at the most. But not the ruthless invader full of lust.

Nor do I think he will take a risk at peak of his career to play a lusty ruthless invader lest it spoils his image.

Khilji type roles are a huge risk for a young actor in terms of image among masses. Not everyone has gumption to take such risks. Kapoor lad keeps it safe playing bazillion coming of age manchild characters in YRF, Imitiaz Ali or Dharma films.

He is a limited genre actor like his parents.

Why would a Khilji type role be a risk if one knew that it was being directed by someone like Sanjay Leela Bhansali and whose prime focus would be the character of Khilji rather than anyone else? kuch bhi...

The villainous characters that are hard to play are those that are not the main focus of the film and still manage to win the audiences through their performances and not the ones where they are the main character and prime focus of the film. I don't find that one bit interesting.

This attempt to put down Ranbir and his filmography by using Khilji - one negative character that Ranveer has played in his entire career is quite ludicrous.

No. There was Lootera. His best performance, IMO. Not a caricature like Khilji, simply a human doing bad things. There was also Ladies vs. Ricky Bahl though it was written more sympathetically.

Lootera was great mainly because of Sonakshi, if you watch it again you'll notice that Ranveer was whispering quite a lot of his dialogues in that movie which for me doesn't make it a great performance.

As for Ladies vs Ricky, that character (not the movie) is in the same vain as Bachna Ae Haseeno .. nothing pathbreaking.

Both have there strengths, but they are not the best of actors. I cannot imagine Ranveer doing a Barfi/Rockstar/Wake up Sid/Rajneeti and Ranbir doing a Khijli( i found the portrayal OTT)/ Bhajirao, Ranveer's best is still Lootera in my opinion.

Though i am a telugite, I feel Malayalam industry has the best talent out of all.

You could call it a not great performance in Lootera, but you'd be in a tiny minority if what movie professionals and critics had to say carries weight.

We weren't talking about pathbreaking,. We were talking about negative characters. Moreover, LVRB was a hit, while BAH flopped. So clearly the audience differed from you in their opinion.

That's 3 negative characters as opposed to the single you insisted Ranveer did.

Bottomline is Ranbir would not be able to carry off Khilji for sure.

But then, I doubt Ranveer could do a Barfi.

Thank you! I've been saying this over and over, but fans act as though they're the best things since forever! 2 very average performers. Watch Kumbalangi Nights if you want to see actual acting. Or North 24 Katham. Or Takeoff. Or Great Indian Kitchen.

I second you, they are 2 very average performers. I honestly feel they themselves will not be able to pull off a barfi or a lootera now like how they had done before. I do not see that earnestness/passion in them anymore. They are more of a star material now than actors, the learning curve has dipped.

@bold: Will take note, i am yet to watch these two.

Take off: Parvathy is such a delight to watch. I absolutely love her and have watched almost all her movies, what a talent she is, so versatile.

Great Indian Kitchen: One of the best movie in recent times. It hits home so hard... There were so many scenes i could relate to, have watched such things happen in my close circle.

Fahad, Parvathy, Mohanlal, Nivin so many good actors.

Frankly speaking it's only this forum where I've seen people praising Ranveer's performance in Lootera to no end and as for professional critics, I don't care much for their opinions. For me, an actor that leaves the greatest impact in a movie is the one that has done his/her job well. In Lootera, it was Sonakshi that left a mark with her powerful acting. Ranveer's performance was very weak and could've been done by any actor.

BAH is not a flop it's a semi-hit if not clean hit, so your point is moot.

Most people who are not Ranveer fans and who have watched Lootera will remember Lootera for Sonakshi and not Ranveer. His fans only talk about it because he played a quiet/composed negative guy which is not his usual, they really don't take his performance into account.

Like someone has already said in this thread, they're both average actors with their own strengths and weaknesses. To completely sh!t on one actor because you like another is what I have a problem with, otherwise, I enjoy watching them both.

I said it, along with Suno Na.😆

What you find appealing is not what a great performance necessarily is. When a huge majority of professionals agree Ranveer's Lootera was a great performance, perhaps they are right. I mean, the split wasn't even close to 50-50.

Not only did BAH flop, it was mocked everywhere for its ridiculousness. Not so LVRB. Edited to add: I was mixing up BAH with Besharam. BAH was hit, but it wasn't reviewed well.

Like I said over and over... Ranbir cannot pull off Khilji, but nor can Ranveer do some of RK's characters. But RK is hailed as some great actor. I mean even in Bollywood, try pitting him against Pankaj or Nawaz. RK would look ridiculous. For that matter, so would Ranveer.
