After a certain age, men and women need to transition into doing something different from the same old running around the trees.

It was harder for Madhuri, Karisma etc. because their success was based in large part on sex appeal. Kajol, though sex appeal was never much a part of her image, succeeded mainly due to her romantic pairing with SRK. It didn't work when she got older. Even Sridevi needed to take a long enough break for the audience to expect something else.

Juhi's USP was never sex appeal. So she went quite easily to meaty leading roles in 3 Deewarein, character roles in I Am, My Brother Nikhil, etc.

If you're asking why she was never #1, I'd say it was part laziness and part ego.

Juhi chawla started in 1986 as main actress and lasted till 2001 thats 13 years as top heroine (1988- qayamat se qayamat tak)

Madhuri started 1984 and first hit 1988 to 2001 again

Sridevi started in 1981 till 1997-98 but first big hit was 1986 Mr India

So hows Juhi not top actress

Juhis comic timing cannot be matched by even Sridevi, shes the best comic timing actress among actress till date

Of course she was not a sex symbol whose dance numbers were hit like Madhuri and Sridevi etc

She was more of a bubbly light hearted film heroine

An entire decade in top3 is successful.She was the topmost actress in 1993.

She did have a long career.

Also, I guess during her time an actress' career as a leading lady was considered over post marriage/kids. A lot of her contemporaries and seniors quit/took sabbaticals post marriage and kids, few examples being Madz (moved abroad post marriage and cut down A LOT on her work); Sridevi (took a sabbatical post kids, I dunno voluntary or not); Jaya B also quit working after she had kids I think (she did K3G after a looong gap).

She had a longer and more acclaimed career than your favourite can ever imagine 🤣

Another thing about juhi that i like is

Juhi married in 1996 but had many successful movies after her marraige which is very rare for actress

Madhuri married and released only one movie devdas success after marriage

Sridevi married and had one movie may be after that judaai i guess

But juhi her top movies from 1996 to 2001 with very big heroes

Daraar, yes boss, deewana mastana, ishq, mr and mrs khiladi, duplicate, arjun pandit, phir bhi dil hai hinustani, one 2 ka four etc so many big and hit movies with top heroes after marraige only

Thats very big achievement for a heroine which even madhuri and sridevi could never achieve

She was talented but it seems she wasn't that serious or made efforts to choose meaningful roles and build a career. She was happy playing the same sweet chirpy role.

Your wrong Sridevi started in 1983 in bollywood her first big hit was Himatwala and had host of other hits that year, following year with heroine centric film Tohfa became highest grossing movie of that year, she reached no.1 position from 1984, and 1986 Nagina she was given unquestionable no.1. Madhuri started 1984 and Juhi was leading role was 1988 QSQT, her 1986 film was more like a cameo appearance.

Juhi kept her marriage hidden for some time
