Beautiful and painful 💔.....

That moment when you realize that they are all dead.

Baap, bhai, pati...uff💔

And Asifa's entry....just....

I was thinking of the worst hence the little girl didn't hit me that hard.Knew it will be somebody young, just didn't want Kajol to carry the person in her arms, which u know is also a reality. Good story, that narrates that it never happens just to a particular kind that they can pin the blame on.

I will not watch it, after reading the comments, while I am not someone to feel uncomfortable from anything generally, but Nirbhaya case always make me uncomfortable.

Wow. This hits you hard.

Especially when they bicker about the lack of space and my mind immediately thinks about 1 rape is reported every 15 minutes in India and every fourth victim is a minor. The lack of space... really hit me hard cause there's so many everyday.

So many nuanced moments :

When the Muslim woman replies to Shruti that burqa ke andar kebab pak rahe hain since it's so hot... Later it's revealed she was burned alive. That gives it a completely different angle.

How Mausi being the 'orthodox never having received an education' woman does not understand/is ignorant of Neha's death due to post rape trauma and thinks her pain is below theirs. Neha is essentially depressed throughout the entire thing. She has mental trauma on top of the physical one cause she survived the incident itself and died later.

Jyoti doing puja and the elders straight away tell her there is no god here.

The doctor modelled on both Priyanka and Jyoti( Nirbhaya) who keeps studying for exams she would never be able to give. A clear analogy about how all these women fated for so many things in the future had their dreams and lives crushed so cruelly.

The mute girl... who couldn't even scream when it happened.

The way the oldies taunt Neha and Shruti as English speaking madams who sit on chairs while they are on the floor. Shruti not understanding what the oldies were saying cause it's not in English. Clearly putting it out there that rape happens to women from every class and stature/status. There is no class or status difference when it comes to sexual violence against women.

The Oldies revealing that they never received an education and were married at 12. Child brides and minor rape endorsed by society itself.

The Baap Bhai Pati dialogue. Gut wrenching.

That moment when Shruti looks at the new 'guest'. The heartbreak is so apparent in her eyes. Goosebumps.

The end was so... mind numbing. And then it suddenly clicks that it could have been a lot worse. A baby.

I think the biggest takeaway from this movie is something I've said time and again : women are second class citizens in this country. And that fact is not gonna change in my lifetime. For an entire lifetime I would be seeing this. It's a hard pill to swallow but I've accepted it.

Not true and you shouldn't / needn't accept it.

I like how they also brought in a little bit of the CAA issue as well through the muslim character. Also how fabulous is Neena Kulkarni! Her posture, accent, that same rough way of speaking that I've seen so many maushis do. Such a wonderful actress.
