he sings so delicately.. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Fragile -handled with utmost care by Talat๐Ÿ˜ƒ..
SD Burman wanted Rafi to sing this song but Jaidev who was his assistant in this movie suggested Talat's quivering voice would be more suitable for this song..

Another song - Sab kuch lutake - from the movie Ek Saal which had both male and female versions. I prefer Talat's version but Lata goes to incredible pitches in hers. Music is by Ravi with some beautiful words by Prem Dhawan.
Karte rahe khiza se hum sauda bahaar ka
Badla diya toh kya ye diya unke pyaar ka

Sab kuch lutake hosh mein aaye toh kya kiya
Din mein agar chirag jalaye toh kya kiya

Hum badnaseeb pyaar ki ruswai ban gaye
khud hi lagake aag tamashaee ban gaye
daman se ab ye shole bujhaye toh kya kiya

I suppose he was more like Jagjeet Singh. His main passion was Ghazals. He might have sung several movie songs, but he did not choose playback singing as his main career like Rafi/Mukhesh. But in his field, he was the master.
I sometimes gets confused with his voice and C R Ramachandra's (music composer) voice. Both have soft velvety voice and sing in the same range (listen to Kitnaa Haseen Hei Mausam).
But Talat Mahmood's songs are deep.

@pjyo, I don't know about Rajinder Krishan being the richest lyricist or winning at the races, but I do know he was quite powerful. In those days the South film industry was quite reputed and gaining an entry into it meant you'd arrived and Rajinder Krishan had a say in who would be cast in South films. So yeah he was pretty influential. And probably rich.

You're right about Asha Parekh, she looks remarkably beautiful in the song. About holding glasses, I know what you mean, but I'm not sure of the context of the song, or if was indeed a drinks party๐Ÿ˜Š.

Guess his knowledge of tamil made him the ideal choice for the AVM bosses, 18 scripts for AVM studios could have build that circle of influence ..
He actually won over 4 million Rupees at the races -huge amount then.
Yeah, this didn't seem like drinks party as some kids were there sitting silently ..Here i just felt production team forgot to bring the glasses๐Ÿ˜› before shooting ๐Ÿ˜†...One guy was even sitting all suited up but instead of shoes was wearing bathroom slippers๐Ÿ˜†- thats when i thought "agar shoes bhool gaye toh glass bhi bhool gaye honge"๐Ÿ˜†
@Pallavi- I love the songs you posted, especially "Shaam-e-gham ki kasam". What a beautiful composition by Khayyam and so well sung by Talat!

Here's another gem by him under the baton of Madan Mohan, again the pen of Rajinder Krishan. This movie had great songs, but this one and Kaun aaya were wasted on Anoop Kumar, don't you think? ๐Ÿ˜›. One of the best ghazals by Madan Mohan ever, IMO and he was king of them.

Yaad reh jaati hai aur waqt guzar jaata hai
phool khilta bhi hai aur khilke bikhar jaata hain
sab chale jaate hain kab dard-e-jigar jaata hai?
daag jo tune diya, dil se mitaya na gaya

Thanks lizzie, for adding this song๐Ÿ˜Š,i had only heard this on vividh bharthi so watching for first time..Anuup kumar fits only in comedies not as hero ..isnt that shubha khote? I never knew she was heroine , remember her most as gossipy neighbor in mili and utpal dutts sis in golmaal๐Ÿ˜†

Thanks for that interesting bit of trivia re Rajinder Krishan, pjyo!
Shubha Khote was mostly a character actress, playing the heroine's BFF and romantic interest to the comedian, usually Mehmood. She played an important role in Seema, Paying guest and some other movies. I think she played opp Sunil Dutt in Didi.
Yeah, she's one of the 3 female leads in this movie, the other 2 being Ameeta and Anita Guha. ๐Ÿ˜›๐Ÿ˜ƒ While Anoop Kumar is one of the 3 male leads, the names of the other two I don't remember. ๐Ÿ˜›
The women all have their pet passions - and want men related to the same field... writing, singing and painting, and the 3 men coincidentally belong to the same 3 professions. Unfortunately each of them falls for the wrong guy! Anoop Kumar plays a singer and had 2 wonderful songs picturized on him - this one and Kaun aaya mere mann ke dwaare by Mannadey (what a waste!)

Ae mere dil kahin has 3 versions in the movie. Daag was such a depressing movie though! DK plays an poor alcoholic and Nimmi play his love interest who's always crying buckets and Lalita Pawar plays his mom who's also in a perpetual teary state! ๐Ÿ˜›

Here are 2 more Talat songs from Daag, MDs are Shankar Jaikishen, lyrics are by Hasrat Jaipuri.

Koi nahin mera iss duniya mein, aashiyaan barbad hai
aansoo bhari mujhe kismat mili hai, zindagi nashad hai

Hum dard ke maaron ka itna hi fasana hai
peene ko sharaab-e-gham, dil gham ka nishaana hai

The lyrics are self-explanatory I guess ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Talat has done a fair share of playback for Raj Kapoor too. Surprising considering RK swore by Mukesh as his voice. But a lot of non-RK production movies that he did had different MDs and singers. Here's one such movie -Bewafa that he starred in with Nargis and Ashok Kumar.
The music was by A.R Qureshi, who's none other than tabla maestro Allah Rakha, Zakir Hussain and Fazal Qureshi's dad.

Tumko fursat ho, meri jaan toh idhar dekh toh lo
char aankhein na karo, ek nazar dekh to lo

And

Dil matwala, lakh sambhala, phir bhi kisi par aa hi gaya
shokh nazar se dekhnewala, pyaar ka rog laga hi gaya

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE ...this song!! Beautiful composition by Roshan and lyrics by Satyendra. He doesn't seem to have written many lyrics but like Javed Akhtar said in his show, even if he'd written just this one song, it's enough. Since it's so brilliant.
Main dil hoon ek armaan bhara tu aake mujhe pehchaan zara

khud maine husn ke haathon mein shokhi ka chalakta jaam diya
gaalon ko gulabon ka rutba kaliyon ko labhon ka naam diya
aankhon ko diya saagar gehra, tu aake mujhe pehchaan zara

And there's this delightful duet by Talat and Lata..so lovely! I wish there was a screen version I could find!

Samake dil mein hamare zara khayal rahe
hume na koi pukaare, zara khayal rahe

Yet another RK - Nargis movie, Aashiana, this time with music by Madan Mohan, boasting tracks like Mere piya se koi jake keh de.
It features 2 Talat solos, one being Mera qaraar leja, mujhe beqaraar kar ja, that also has a female version sung by Lata Mangehkar.

The other is this beautifully painful melody - Talat sings this with so much feeling! ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Main paagal mera manwa paagal paagal meri preet re
paglepan ki peed woh jaane, bichde jiska meet re
