Whoever wrote this article is the only one who deserves to be insulted. Anyone who thinks liberals is a degrading term is already wrong to begin with.
As for what Vivek is saying, agree. But really why do us women have to choose? Why can't we fight for all the things we need? Why do we have to choose between our most basic human necessity and equality?

Do you want to be seen as equal to men in society, have the same access

or

do you want bathroom and not be raped?

I don't want one or the other, I want it all. I don't need a man to explain to me which issue they should fight for.

There's another point other than the nature of the deity. People of all religions are allowed in Sabarimala and women above 50.
Nobody just wakes up and goes there. One has to take a vrat of 41 days. It's said that it takes 21 days to break a habit. Drunkards, wife beaters, assholes have gone on the tirtham after the 41 day vrat during which one abstains from non veg food, smoking, drinking, etc, sex, masturbation, anger, negative thoughts, abuse, bathe twice a day, sleep on the floor without a pillow, etc.
A guruswami guides the devotees undertaking the vrat. And Vivek Oberoi can now become a guruswami because he has been to Sabarimala 18 times.

Anyway, people commenting on the issue from their parochial mindsets, makes little difference. Women of Kerala have been out on the streets in the lakhs against the SC order.
Last heard, India was supposed to be a democracy. Today judges are making laws. What's the need to vote?

There is a reason why certain age women were not allowed in main sabarimalai temple...people who know the reason behind that should respect that instead of being hellbent on entering that particular temple...ghor kaliyug ! Its not abt men vs women and equality everytime !! Sigh

This entire thing is pretty simple to me. It has everything to do with the society's stigma with menstruation and somehow it being something impure. The entire mythology is based on the fact that somehow the lord's celibacy would be broken if menstruating women enter the premises which is odd because nobody questions how they are even related. Our gods could stay celibate or brahmachari even with menstruating women out there if they have self control which am hoping our gods do because they are supposed to be ideals right? The whole thing just reeks of old orthodox societal notions.

And its not just Hinduism, its in every religion. Women should be allowed to pray and visit a temple in the same capacity as men. We shouldn't put some age old mythology over the rights of women. And sure women have tons of problems that need more attention but that doesn't mean we do whataboutism every chance we get. Rights mean rights everywhere. And people saying how so many temples only allow women not men, well to them am gonna ask what's stopping you from petitioning and getting that entry for men too?

It's high time society treats menstruation as something normal and nothing extraordinary that leads to classification of women into two different halves. And if our so called gods, the almighty ,the one with bountiful knowledge and wisdom of ages dont understand this, we have to question the kind of gods we worship.

👏

Very well said.

That said, I wish there was a better way to have resolved this issue without bringing the courts into the picture.

Religion, religious faiths and beliefs are often times beyond logic and scientific explanations...The belief of God in itself is faith based and not logic or science based because science needs proofs and we have none as far as the existence of God goes and yet there are millions and millions who believe in some form of super power which we term as God...Having said that ...that women of certain age would not be allowed to enter a temple is not really sexist...its just based on a belief structure that needs to be respected...religious beliefs are all about something that cannot be explained in the first place...its all faith...nothing to do with feminism...the reasons for women forbidden from entering have been explained by some members here...its like a karwachauth vrat and the debate that some feminists start every year at the time of KC...why don't the husbands observe the vrat...why do women not take care of their husband's diet and exercising instead of observing KC...dude the educated women get all this..but then its all about faith and what u believe in...its not about science and facts...
If there is an age old belief about a temple...then it should be respected...its not hurting anyone...its not equal to women not being allowed to vote or drive or get educated...its just upholding a belief system that a lot of people have put their faith into...it has nothing to do with feminism...like some said that there are temples where men are not allowed...so what its a belief system...what is the need to break it if its not harming anyone...I am all for taking up cudgels against the not so good parts of a religion but not this..

I wish people understood this instead of attacking and calling feminazis etc.
Gods are concepts made by us. Gods are shaped by our own ideas and beliefs.
Religion should be updated

The concept of god itself is stupid and on top of that there are rules created as to how that god ought to be worshipped. Beyond silly. (Good for those who believe in it, but please count me out).
