Sometimes long distance relationships do work. Sometimes long distance works better for some people rather than being in each other's faces all the time. The nature and shape of relationships are changing.
Military families have been sustaining long distance relationships for decades now. During deployment, people can go years without seeing their spouse. I've known a few people maintain long distance relationship during their or their spouse's medical residency. Many NRI's have long distance relationships with partners, fiances, and spouses back home.
Long distance is not easy. Some people struggle with lack of physical proximity and intimacy. This leads to many people finding local partners for companionship or intimacy. Whether this is cheating or not depends on the couple and the boundaries they have established for themselves.
I know a military couple who divorced due to the cheating that happened when they were apart. I know another military couple who after a rocky time over cheating just accepted that sleeping with others was just something that happened during deployment. Both partners will date others during that period.
If Alka and her husband are happy, who are we to give a f**k.
