For what it's worth, I think it has a lot to do with funding. BW was a closed industry for a really long time and run only by a few powerful families. Money wasn't available in any legitimate way and movies were being made with mob/gangster money and they kill you if you don't pay up in time. Literally.

Who would take those risks for anyone other than their own family members or at least close friends or people they know? You needed extreme trust to make movies in India so no surprise that nobody went looking for outsiders to employ. Why would they? They don't owe anybody anything. The audience also got used to seeing kids and sisters and brother and uncles and aunts.

It's also a really risky industry so outsiders with money also choose to stay away and better spend that money elsewhere. Why come into a place where you might go bankrupt so easily? Even Amitabh Bachchan who was skilled in the industry lost all his money in a bad investment in the Ms. World pageant.

MB - Yeah, I've also heard that Suhana is very sweet. SRK has been talking about how he and Gauri want her to take over their work with acid attack victims one day because she's very kind.

Anyway, I still think it's Abram that has all the right intangibles. He's already so magnetic and has a joie de vivre like SRK does.

^^I read that IV where he said that. Also heard she isn't into doing drugs like most other * kids (atleast till now) and is respectful & nice & doesnt act like she Jr 'SRK's daughter even though 1 look at her face & it stares you in the face. Literally. She has this aura of calmness & maturity around her that I really like. Hope she is a good actress so that she can tide over the extreme criticism she is bound to receive.. Abram? Magnetic?? I feel all these feelings/perceptions stem from the fact that he's a cute looking baby.. I mean, Aryan has some magnetism... Different strokes, different folks I reckon

I was only commenting on the fact that if someone has all the ready made connections in the world, especially in a place like BW where getting a break for a film-family child, is one of the easiest paths to take which come loaded with the luxury they've lived in for years & with the first-hand knowledge of all the glamour & privileges Fame brings you, it's frankly! absolutely stupid for anyone to imagine that they would choose a dry, boring career which would pay them a millionth of what being a C-list actor in BW, brings you. That's all. :) It doesn't happen in the west, because there is only 1 chance that legendary actors like Tom Hanks & Streep, can get for their children & many actors kids are well-educated with not much desire to get into HW knowing how much hard work they would need to give in, to just GET an audition!

Good point on BW

But in the west parents can get them one audition, then it's 100 % upto the kids - I think that's what you're saying...

Hanks' son and Streep's daughter are doing mostly TV shows, I think

I wonder what path Madhuri Dixit's sons will choose? It will be great if they becoame surgeons like their Dad (unless they have the looks & inborn talent)

She doesn't parade around her kids much though

It's disgusting the for me to admit this, but I've a raging crush on poor Aryan just based off his looks & my own perceptions of his personality. 😆 He's sooo.. hot 😆 for exactly the reasons you stated!

there's no shame in being attracted to anyone. Aryan does has a attractive personality... I think it stems from his brooding nature. It makes him seem mysterious and curious for people to know more about him.
Tho I do think he's a nice guy, just doesn't like being in his fathers huge shadow. There are so many pics of him posing with fans. At the LAX airport he took pics with few girls and even coming back from alibaugh he stopped to take a pic with a guy. Even tho he looked like he wants to be anywhere but there in those pics atleast he didn't break their hearts and stopped for a pic. 😆

Betty: Yes, that's exactly what I am saying. I also feel a lot of things in life, do matter on luck. Life is not a zero-sum game where you put in work, and will always get the result. I am not negating anyone's hard work, but people find attributing any success to anything other than work, as taking away from said success. I feel luck plays a huge part otherwise, B Jr should've been a huge star since day 1 seeing the amount of work he put in.

Streep's daughter is known to be a terrible actress & hardly anyone of repute bothers taking her for their movies whereas Hank's son Colin Hanks, does pretty well on TV & theatre & is currently doing a show I love, Life In Pieces.

I doubt MD's sons would become actors & most definitely not surgeons! Most people living in those worlds don't have the discipline or academically inclined enough, to become doctors, academics are afterall, an exercise in discipline. They would probably be a part of BW in some way or the other though, since lifestyle, growing up in it etc will contribute.BR]

Tequila: No I know there is no shame, it's just that I find it uncomfortable seeing how I am 5+ years older than him. 😆 But meh, I do, so I do.

Ya he does, he also seems to be really funny & a few of the SRK forum admirers have posted IVs where SRK & G both attest to Aryan's humour + he's very ambitious! I mean come on! Those are the qualities & looks I completely fall for so how can you blame me! 😆 He seems to have a long line of admirers for himself & for his Dad!!! 😆 I bet all thee star-struck girls want to meet SRK. 😆 😆

Soha worked in PWM (Private Wealth Management) at Citi (in London/India?) or generally private banking. That's pretty different than what people call "investment banking". Nonetheless, it is an interesting field, but I suppose she wanted more of an "artistic" job that runs in her family.

Well even in the West, parents can produce films for their kids if they want to. It's not like anyone is stopping them. But I think it's that the whole lifestyle and parenting itself is different in the Western world. Parents don't lend a huge helping hand after kids turn 18 or so. Some are kind enough to pay for college but many don't even do that.

There were so many students I knew in university that were well to do but the parents wouldn't even pay their school tuition fees and the kids were on loans or working part time trying to make it financially. Independence is really valued and the bonding itself is different. The same kids then won't have any issue dumping their parents into nursing homes when they get old.

Not gonna lie - I prefer the Indian system where both parents and kids are more willing to do things for each other. Independence is always good but sometimes too much can be harmful too.

Bollyfanforever: Nope, I know lot of bankers who work in Citi etc, it's more of a niche field, but does come into the ambit of banking so for simplification, I know people who call themselves bankers but aren't really. Its just easier. She's no doubt a really smart & very well-read lady, far more than her pseudo brother! She's taken after her father. Clearly the glamour bug bit her very hard!

Anon39: I completely agree!!! I've friends who Sr white/white culturally who are shocked by how much my parents/Indian parents do for their children. I am ALL for independence, I fact I insist upon it being a way of life, but I find it extremely cruel to make your child work & slog their way through life despite being well-to-do!!! W*F are you even in possession of so much money?!! Old age homes are another concept I just cannot wrap my head around & it all truly does boil down to the inherent, fundamental differences in Culture.

Mallika-E-Bhais: Yup, working in the private bank definitely come under "banking"! I might have misread somewhere in the thread about her being an investment banker, which generally lifestyle wise is something quite different. You're spot on about her brother though. He acts as if he's so well-educated...when he hasn't even gone to college. Not that going on to study makes someone more educated always anyway lol. Saif needs to understand that he comes of as a pseudo intellect and that he has no box office pull.
