It's more like he tried to get into the "massy" zone but was rejected by the audience. Movies like Humshakals Bullet Raja or Phantom didn't make the cut

"Massy brain" implies a mind that understands movies that are loved by the masses. He's referring to his own lack of good judgement with films here. Hence going back to the doing movies that are a little niche, like Ek Hasina Thi, Being Cyrus, and now Kaalakandi

He delivered a great performance in Rangoon! That moment in the bunker he knows about what's going on right under his nose is terrific.

Can't wait to him in Bazaar.

They ask him about his movies not being commercial success, he says he doesn't have a massy brain, the movies he likes and works are not liked by the front benchers... So they're are not commercial success, usually

He is lamenting tha he's too classy for movie going Indian public...

Yeah, right 😛

Yeah, you are probably right! Actually I didn't read the article. So don't know the context. I just gave the literal/primary meaning, but Saif's connotation was different (as you said, classy vs massy).

But see here, I rightly pointed out that he is an elitist snob 😛. His begum too!

Nowhere did he imply classy. He has in fact mentioned multiple times that he tried doing movies that would be loved by the masses but he doesnt have that vibe. He has however used the words "niche" as a description for himself. Or movies that won't be loved by everyone.
