She is an icon for the nation because of her power-packed performance in Dangal but a harrowing experience on a Vistara flight left even Zaira Wasim teary eyed.

In an Instagram story Zaira posted, the Dangal girl alleged that a middle-aged man sitting behind her on her Delhi-Mumbai Vistara flight tried to molest her.

Posting her Instagram story in two videos, one of which she recorded inside the plane and another after landing in Mumbai, Zaira narrated how the man made her two-hour journey "miserable".

"It was all chill till I felt somebody brushing against my back while I was half asleep... Guess he couldn't sit like a civilized (sic) human being and placed his feet on my arm rest while he's fully PHELOAOED (spread) his body on his seat," Zaira said in her Instagram story.

She went on to describe how she initially blamed turbulence for the man's foot being where it was. But, then she woke up to find the foot "rubbing [against her] back and neck." Zaira said she wanted to record the entire episode on camera but the lighting in the flight cabin was too dim, something that made the entire ordeal even "worse".

"Slow claps for Vistara's crew guys! Wonderful!" the Dangal girl ended her story.

Later, she posted an Instagram live from the Mumbai airport, where a visibly upset Zaira fought back her tears as she said "This is not done! this is not the way anybody should be made to feel! This is terrible!"

"Who is going to help us Girls? If we don't help ourselves, nobody will come ahead" Zaira ends her video in what seems to be a depressing commentary about the situation in our country.

PS: Twitter reaction from a Female Journalist who calls herself a proud Bhakt!!

@JagratiShukla29:It's wrong to shame the man accused of molestation by #ZairaWasim without hearing his side of the story She & her mother think crying @instagram instead of taking action makes sense.I think that's a publicity stunt If Molestation did occur, why hasn't she filed an FIR yet?

Taking cognisance of Zaira Wasim's recent revelations, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha on Sunday said that the passenger, who allegedly molested her on a flight, will be put on the no-fly list if the allegations are found to be true.

"Zaira Ji should do two things- firstly register an FIR and secondly, she should cooperate with airline and they could put the passenger on no-fly list if found guilty. We condemn this incident," Sinha said.

Here are some of the comments about this incident from Facebook.

1Aishwarya sharma:.Dangal se kya seekha? Zaira - 0

Instead of acting then n there only she decided to put up an Instagram story later on!
She says that she complained to the crew n they did nothing! N what did she do for her own safety then?! Why didn't she complain to the airport authorities?! Why didn't she simply confront n slap the person!!
She snapped at a journalist when asked about women's oppression in Kashmir some time ago. Her mother loves Pakistan n hates India. She was apologising to kashmiris for Dangal.
And now she is crying on social media instead of taking up any action!!

@JagratiShukla29:1/3 Why #ZairaWasim's molestation allegations seem fishy and a mere Publicity Stunt? >This picture means nothing, it (putting foot on armrest) doesn't amount to any offense, let alone Molestation. >Why didn't she Complain to Cabin Crew, Confront Passenger, Request change of Seat?

I saw many similar tweets like that and I am utterly disgusted. I know there are some who want to wait to hear both sides of the story and that's perfectly alright. But shaming and condemning Zaira Wasim? According to them, her pics and her tears are definitely fake. And this is exactly one of the reasons perpetuators get away and one of the biggest problems in India (not to say it doesn't exist in other countries): victim shaming. Accusing the victim of lies before justice is even meted. And she's a celeb. Think of the common girl in India. This is the reason they don't speak up. Even if they speak up,no one steps in to help. It's utterly sad that molestation is not even acknowledged as a crime by many in society. In they truly did acknowledge it as a crime, they wouldn't shame victims, they would step in to help. #RIPprogressivesociety

I had a similar incident last month. They even clicked my pictures while I was putting my bag in the overhead cabinet.
Thankfully the flight had an amazing crew and they helped me out.

I have a funny yet sad story to tell.

On my way from Abu Dhabi to New Delhi, I sat on a plane (I was travelling alone) surrounded by men. I suppose this is because many workers from India go to the UAE alone for work, which is why they return alone too. There were almost no women on the plane.

I sat in a row with other men. They began acting inappropriately with me. Spreading their legs, touching me "accidentally (obviously not really accidentally), drinking and invading my general sense of space. I was freaked out (this was a few years ago so I was only 18/19) and too frightened to say or do anything. I just prayed we would reach our destination as fast as possible.

Then a young man walks up, sees my pain, and snaps at the men to behave themselves. Asks them if this is how they act around ladies. Told them to show me respect. I was like wow, a real life hero!

Turns out, this man had his own intentions for helping as well. He sat near me afterwards (which I was grateful for) and initiated conversation with me. I didn't mind, I thought he was harmless because he had just saved me from those other men. Slowly, however, the conversation turned intrusive. He began asking me about my personal life and wanted to know if I had a man, and if I didn't, when I wanted to get married, and what I looked for in a husband. He was belligerent. Although it was different from the other men, he too was invading my personal space. I felt uncomfortable and harassed. What right did he have to ask me all this? I didn't even know him! I felt like he was objectifying me and reducing me to a commodity - something that can be bought or sold, in the guise of marriage. It was awful.

After the plane landed he followed me out - he simply wouldn't leave me alone. He was really just as bad as the other men. I was honestly too scared and paralyzed to speak up for myself. I just couldn't believe this was happening to me, although in my own subtle ways I had tried to end the conversation with him for a long time. I was aloof and gave one word answers. Still, he relented. In the end, he had to leave me alone, not out of choice, but because he had no choice - I had someone waiting to take me to the diplomat counter and he had to go wait in the long line designated for normal travellers. Boy, that was a relief!

So moral of the story, anyone that tries to pick apart my actions and reactions, and blames ME for the way the men around me act with me, can go f**k themselves. I feel Zaira's pain.

The end. 😊

^^ Geez, I can't imagine what nightmarish experience you must have had! Airlines truly need to focus on having stricter measures against sexual harassment while on board, so customers' safety is ensured. And I really hope women can speak up and complain about these type of harassment to the staff more readily and that their complaints are taken seriously. And the people that don't take these types of complaints seriously or even make fun of them are despicable, let's see how they fare when being subjected to this type of invasion of personal space and blatant harassment on a plane. 😡
