Twinkle Khanna apologises for her comments on Mallika Dua, says I had reached a breaking point'

The Akshay Kumar-Mallika Dua controversy became a huge one after Twinkle Khanna also jumped into the fray. She defended the actor's comment on Mallika saying, humour has to be seen in the right context.' And she didn't even stop at that. The former actress and now a celebrated author went ahead to crack lame jokes on Mallika and her father Vinod Dua who took serious offence to Akshay's, Mallika ji aap bell bajao, mei aapko bajata hoon.' Now after all that, she has issued a long apology letter on her Facebook account blaming it on the trolls who dragged her daughter Nitara into the controversy. She said it was purely an emotional outburst.

Twinkle writes, "Unwise Wisecracks -As I reflect on my actions this past week, I realize that I got pulled into this debate not as a social commentator but as a wife and unlike my normal, slightly rational self, my reaction was purely emotional and without perspective, and I have been rather miserable about it ever since. I would like to apologize to everyone who felt that I was trivializing the cause of feminism especially because I strongly believe in equality and have been a feminist from the time I was a young woman, much before I even knew the term. I think this came at a point where I was already reeling from an onslaught of abuse against various members of my family, which started with vicious and personal comments about my mother and went on to a widely shared open letter where the writer as a comeback for my comments about Karva Chauth tried to fling muck at every single member of my family. So when in this latest episode regarding my husband, my five-year-old was also dragged in for something that she had absolutely nothing to do with, I reached breaking point. And with my protective instincts in overdrive, I reacted irrationally with the only tools I have that help me retain my sanity in this fishbowl existence -words and lame jokes -though they have got me into trouble often enough in the past as well.

Read the full statement here...

We wonder what made Twinkle understand the gravity of that comment all of a sudden.

I emphathize with her over the karva chauth issue because yes she was outta line but that open letter was so crass and cheap esp the stuff about her mother and even Akshay- she shouldn't have even reacted to it. People take advantage of anonymity and say all kinds of shit. Celebrities are human too and these useless people writing very personal open letters are vile and insensitive. I get her feeling shaken.

But please. There is no logical or even emotional explanation about those jokes. She supported her husband at first. Very well. Emotional response. But the following jokes were clearly trying something else. She was being petty and cruel not protective. Do better next time around Twinkle.

Woman against woman in a world already against women is a terrible, terrible thing. Something her own daughter who she is so protective of won't be able to digest once she grows up.

Ab aaya oonth pahad ke niche. Even if we forget about her supporting her husband, the jokes were just plain pathetic.

Less of apology and more of an explanation. All these drama 'apologize to everyone' blah blah. Apology to Mallika Dua would have been sufficient for those crass jokes. 🤔

Tweets supporting her and her husband show how madly deeply people worship celebrities.
They say akshay isn't wrong and her jokes were good and apt. I felt like banging my head to the nearby wall. 😔

jab khud ki beti par aayi...to itna bura laga... 😳

fir to she can definitely understand how Vinod Dua must be feeling on Akshay's so called 'joke' on HIS daughter..
koi baat nahi yahi reet hai duniya ki... jab apne be guzarti hai tabhi samajh aata hai...
