Veere Di Wedding title row: Jimmy Sheirgill wins, HC rules against Sonam, Kareena
While we see movies clashing these days, there is an unusual controversy for Kareena Kapoor Khan's upcoming film Veere Di Wedding. While the film has been facing obstacles every now and then, there is a controversy the film is embroiled in a new controversy. Earlier the shooting of the film that was supposed to start in 2016, was put on halt due to Kareena Kapoor Khan's pregnancy. And now the film is facing another issue. As per reports in TOI, Jimmy Sheirgill's upcoming Punjabi film is titled Veerey Ki Wedding, which is quite similar to Kareena and Sonam Kapoor starrer Veere Di Wedding.
The film is produced by Anil Kapoor who addressed this issue by writing a letter to Indian Motion Pictures Producers' Association (IMPPA) and sought their intervention in the matter. Not only this, Kapoor also approached the High Court. While Kapoor claimed to have registered the title first, the director Ashu Trikha of the Punjabi film said that they have acquired copyrights and trademark for the film title and have registered it with Indian Film and Tv Producers Council. In fact, 80 percent of the film Veerey Ki Wedding has been shot, and they were given a green signal for the same by IMPPA, and as per the director, a trademark is considered more legit than a registration.
There are also reports that Anil Kapoor might have to choose a new title since the shoot for his film hasn't begun. Also, Ashu Trikha the director of Jimmy Sheirgill's Punjabi film told Mid-Day, "We were informed that their lawyers had sent a notice asking us to be present in court, else they'd seek interim relief. We rushed to get our paperwork done. The judge said he was not convinced by the [Anil's] argument. He did not find any misuse or deceit as alleged, given that the story and cast were different. We are waiting for the judgment copy."
No comments have been made by the Kapoors over this but we hope that this hurdle is cleared soon.
