I've watched this film a few times and his performance was nothing short of stellar. He did not get overshadowed either. Yes, Alia was good but not so extraordinary that one forgets about her co-stars.
Bollywood people were fawning over Alia and behaving as if Randeep didn't exist.

So why did Randeep Hooda not get as much appreciation and acclaim as he deserved for Highway?

he didn't even get the deserved praise for sarbjeet. Rai got a nomination for her much criticized act but hooda didn't even get that. He is painfully underrated when it comes to acting.

Speaking on how BW works..i feel he is a bit of recluse where as this industry runs on networking also he is very outspoken on twitter on a lot of political and controversal stuff..this further dents his little chances whatsoever..that is just how BW is..for outsiders esp networking is key..kangana is an exception..

I havent seen the film but from past movies like say Company where Vivek stole the lime light from Ajay, its about how your role impacts the viewer. The way the role leaves its impact is what matters most. The length of role and all is not that important. Sometimes short roles take away the lime light. May be Randeep didnt leave an impact, irrespective of his looks or acting.

For Alia to get it over more deserving performances, Randeep had to be overshadowed in the praise department.

Because he is an outsider. Whereas aloo is Jo's baby and rai is bachchan bahu...Itne bhaari credentials ke aage nanhe se randeep ki kya aukaat..

Actually, I know many people who watched this film and all of them praised his performance. The audience obviously liked his work a lot, yet Bollywood insiders and media persons behaved as if it was all about Alia.

Randeep must have performed well and people liked it but its like what is the recall thing of the movie or something that impresses the viewer the most and stays on. The role becomes imp than the performance. Right now I can think of is Tusshar Kapoor from Golmaal series, his mute act made him popular.
