It is Anuradha not Kavita on the track. Anuradha sounds angelic on the record, absolutely magical. But I also think Alka would have nailed it. Alka definitely has the range Anu does. But I can't imagine Anuradha doing justice to a "Choli Ke Peeche" or "Taal Se Taal" or "Tu Muskura". There is a reason why Anuradha couldn't last past the mid-90s. Alka did a few cheesy songs in the 80s, showed her versatility in the 90s with romantic numbers and all kinds of fast-paced and mid-tempo's. She's the only one from that era who successfully transitioned into the 2000s. Don't get it twisted.

if you listen alka yagnik in this song when she goes up high on Aisa dewaNAAA she sound uncomfortable with it and sound shrill ...though i like alka voice quality more πŸ˜›

I've never heard that first song. Just listened, it's so good!! πŸ˜ƒ
That bum note comes at 3:13. I see what you're saying. But that's the note given to her by Himesh Reshamiya. When a singer records a track, the producer ("music director") of the song tells them how to sing it. Clearly he was trying to fit in too many notes in that 2.5 seconds and it didn't work. He is well known for "experimenting" in his songs like that. Many times it doesn't work for him.

But you can see in the intro here (0min23sec-0min33sec) that Alka does the high register ad-libs with ease:

EDIT: I know Anuradha has a few hits beyond mid-90s but her stardom/hype/celebrity died down heavily. She was not sought after at all. It was all about Alka + Kavita.
Although I feel Anuradha was snubbed when she wasn't nominated for "Pyar Kiya To Nibhana" (from Major Saab) in 1998!!! πŸ˜• She didn't get a single nomination after 1993, when she won for Dhak Dhak. It was her 3rd consecutive win no less!

^^^^ i still wonder how himesh resahmiya explain the song to his singers ...jhalak dikhlaaaja ek baar aja aja aja aja aaaja πŸ˜† though himesh rated his playback singer on scale on 1 to 10 he have given alka 7/10 , sunidhi 9/10 πŸ˜• (as a voice alka is better than sunidhi but sunidhi is a versatile singer) , abhijeet 6/10 , sonu nigam 10/10 and udit narayan 7/10...
pehle baar dil yun is a mid range song i guess even kumar sanu can not sing high range songs i am yet to listen alka variety in singing some heavy high pitch song ...shreya also have a very great vocal range

Anuradha was only around till Gulshan Kumar was alive.. every song in the market was hers. Then suddenly it stopped.
Looks like the music industry boycotted her or something. They should make a biopic on her instead of Gulshan kumar

^^In a recent interview, Anuradha Paudwal said that she left the music industry when she was at her peak.
Also, I remember reading that when Kavita Krishnamurthy was asked about who her favourite singer was from her contemporaries, she said it was Anuradha Paudwal.

The most surprising thing is squeaky queen Ms. Paudwal sounds less squeaky here than the other one

Both sound good but Alka suited Madhuri better

So did Anuradha end up dubbing all songs of Dil or just this one?

All songs were by Anuradha except for this one and Sadhana Sargam does a great job

She and yalka had almost similar sweet voice that tends to go screechy at high pitches
They sound like shreya ghoshals predecessor to me

Kavita on the other hand I find has a strong base and melody oriented voice
You can feel her classical training when she sings

Loved Paudwal's devotional songs

Bold - They both were (Anuradha in particular) following their predecessor Lata's footstep... I think until Sunidhi came along, most everybody who sang for the heroine, were following her footsteps bcz once upon a time Lata ji was the reigning queen of playback singing, was singing most of the songs in BW, the rest of the songs were by Asha ji

So if you want to sing for the leading lady of the film you better have a bird voice otherwise you'll be relegated to singing for character actors, bit players which doesn't happen often

@Betty, all the songs that Anuradha sang were recorded by Alka earlier.
And totally agree with you about Anuradha being a squeaky queen!

Also, I was recently looking at Anuradha's albums from the early 90s.
She was nowhere as prolific as Alka Yagnik, but she was definitely more successful in the early 90s. All her songs in Aashiqui, Beta, Dil, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, etc were huge hits.
