Rishi Kapoor
Mirror was the first to report (December 13, 2016) that Hrithik Roshan was to re-unite with his Agneepath director Karan Malhotra and producer Karan Johar for a comedy-drama, which would mark the debut of Saif Ali Khan's daughter, Sara. Hrithik's was a double role, one of which would be that of a sardar.
Now, we have learnt that Rishi Kapoor, whose last turn in KJo's Kapoor & Sons won him critical acclaim, will also feature in the film in an important role of a sardar. A look test with the veteran actor in a turban last month had him all excited. Rishi's previous turn as a sardar, in Imtiaz Ali's Saif, Deepika-starrer, Love Aaj Kal (2009) was also widely acclaimed.
The film's spokesperson told Mirror, "Yes, Rishi Kapoor was going to play the role of a sardar but the film has been put on hold for the moment, since many details are being worked upon."
Malhotra, who made his directorial debut with Agneepath, went on to make Brothers, the official remake of Warrior, in 2015, has been working on the script for the last two years. Buzz is, the script is now being reworked because Anees Bazmee's comedy-drama Mubarakan, currently being shot in London, also has two sardars, played by Anil Kapoor and Arjun who has a double role. The similarity has prompted Malhotra to rethink the plot. While Rishi's sardar character may remain, the other actor could lose his turban. Rumour mills have been buzzing that Hrithik has walked out but a source had told Mirror (January 30), that while Sara is no longer a part of the project, Hrithik was scheduled to have one final meeting with the makers in March.
The actor returned from a vacation in Maldives with sons, Hrehaan and Hridhaan, on Sunday.
