Model turned actress Pooja Batra, is known for her triumphant win as Miss India 1993. However, since going through her divorce with Dr Sonu Ahluwalia, her life has turned upside down, which broke her into tears on the sets of her upcoming Hollywood venture.
It is said that Batra had been through a rollercoaster with her marriage and the start of her film career. She told Mumbai Mirror, "I've lived through the most gruelling, lonely and difficult phase of my life!" However, now she is back on track to peruse her ambition in acting.
Batra will be starring in a Hollywood Sci-fi film, One Under the Sun', as a astronaut who survived a catastrophic space mission. It is rumoured that Batra has gone all out to play the role, from extensive research on NASA, to dyeing her hair black. Despite such efforts, Batra was unable to forget her past and she broke down in tears on the sets of the film. She said, "All the negative energies from my eight year marriage and divorce burst out on the sets like a pressure cooker. The upheavals took a toll but my ambition to make a name for myself in this part of the world kept me going."
The role of astronaut Kathryn Voss was originally written for an Afro-American, but when directors, Vincent Tran and Riyaana Hartley, saw Batra's audition, they decided to change the character to an Indian woman. Batra made an indirect comment about Indian actresses making a move into Hollywood films, "There's an ambiguous mix of race and colour. In America anything is possible today." However, the actress believes it is because Indian actor Irrfan Khan has helped paved the way for other Bollywood actors into Hollywood.
