Shriya Saran's shocker: Why the 'Drishyam' actress doesn't want 'Jism Ki Aag 2' to release
It's one film Shriya Saran probably doesn't want released in Bollywood. At least, not now that she has a Drishyam and a Midnight's Children behind her. Or a Sivaji for that matter. But the promo of Jism Ki Aag 2, starring the actress, is doing the rounds online and at first glance, you can't help but feel like it shouldn't release here at all. Surprisingly, the film is directed by Janardhan Maharshi, who incidentally happens to be the writer of Eega.
At six minutes long, it appears to be a distributor's cut that has leaked. Forget a B-grade film, this one plays out like a Z-grade film. Understandably, the film doesn't show up on her filmography on IMDB. But do a little digging and you find that JKA2 is actually the dubbed Hindi version of Pavitra, a Telugu film released in 2014.
Now, Pavitra is actually a film Shriya happily shot for, then promoted heavily. It was also released in Tamil and Telugu. "The film has Shriya playing a character who becomes a prostitute due to circumstance but eventually has no qualms about her profession. She falls in love, then later, decides to enter politics and ends up getting elected," reveals a source. "It is as if everyone forgot about the film since then," our source adds, "And the makers are trying to cash in on Shriya's film with Ajay Devgn by pegging the film as After grand success of Drishyam...' when in reality, the film released two years prior."
While the promo has Shriya's character sharing her bed with politicians, babas et al, there's a random subplot involving a no-good blackmailing photographer and weird cuts of girls dancing with goons to remixed versions of Dum Maaro Dum and Mere Angne Mein. Jism Ki Aag 2 is being marketed as A Bold and Gold Film'. Whatever that means... Meanwhile, Shriya is keeping mum about the matter!
