Mohit Suri's next is a remake of a French superhit

Deccan Chronicle | Mehul S. Thakkar | June 09, 2015, 23.06 pm IST
Mohit Suri

Soon after Hamari Adhuri Kahani hits the theatres this week, Mohit Suri will start work on his next, which is a remake of the French hit The Intouchables. According to reports, Aditya Roy Kapur, whose career revived after Aashiqui 2, has been cast in the film. However, Mohit denies having finalised anyone. "No one is locked at the moment. And I still have to finish a little bit of detailing in the script," Mohit says.

Karan Johar has signed Mohit for this film, which is about the friendship between a young man who is assigned as the caretaker of an old man in a wheel chair. Mohit, however, will have his own twists in the tale. "It's a really good film, but I have not made it a story of an old and a young man. Both characters in my film will be young," he says. Probe him on the reason behind this, and he says, "I thought why not make it more young and contemporary about a boy on a wheelchair, who has a life ahead of him. And finding a girl for him would be more interesting." The film will be co-produced by Dharma Productions and Guneet Monga's Sikhya Entertainment.

I think even in the original the wheel chaired guy is not old. Philip and Driss are more or less from the same generation. But this finding a girl for him angle seems new. Mohit is Bollywoodizing Intouchables 😆.

I'm still hoping for Sid and ARK.

"I thought why not make it more young and contemporary about a boy on a wheelchair, who has a life ahead of him. And finding a girl for him would be more interesting."

Oh uh, there it goes down the drain. Making it a love story and thus destroying the whole essence of the movie.

Or does he mean that finding a girl for a young man would be more interesting rather than an older person (whatever that means)?? That would mean that the main focus will be on the friendship and the girl would be of a lesser age than the original. I will take that. At-least that way it wont be a romantic abomination.

Adi is going to be one of the leads. Its as locked as it can get unless something drastic happens. The question is who is the other one.

Only Sid seems free in the said time period. Excel movie is pushed back so he will be free around August. I think K&S finishes by July end, no??

No official date for end of K&S but end of July sounds logical. It is supposed to be a smaller scale movie anyway.

Reading your above post about finding Philip a girl, yea I agree that it doesn't make sense. But in the original the movie ends with Driss reuniting Philip with his long lost love. So maybe that's what Mohit is talking about. At least I hope so. One of these days I have to watch the original version. But I'll do it after I find out who's been cast, lest Mohit casts people I don't like 😆

I hope so too. If done right this could be a breath of fresh air. The only problems are Mohit Suri and Karan Johar. I don't trust them one bit. This project in the hands of someone like Abisheikh Kapoor backed by UTV would been so much better.

Imagine if they make this about finding a girl for the disabled person. That will suck beyond imagination.😡😡

As for the casting, I don't think we have to worry too much. Adi and Sid looks likely to be the final cast. I will take that. I wanted Adi and Farhan at the start but they are not going with the age gap, so Adi and Sid will do fine as well.

Saw the movie and it's beautiful. Hope they don't ruin it. Especially that it is a true story.

who doesnt know that they are going to spoil 'Intouchables'...😲 🤣
and Mohit's twists in the tale: old man got paralyzed after getting into accident,.. and his wife died in that accident leaving behind all lovy dovy memories...
and during recovery either he shares his memories with caretaker or keep on having flash backs...😆
this is Indian Intouchables,..🥱
