She was rising to the top with hits like Jeet, Saajan Chale Sasural and Raja Hindustani in 1996. YRF would take a top star anyday!

In 1997 also Lolo had 3 hits with Hero No 1, Judwaa and DTPH.

Urmila was left to bask in glory of Rangeela only. Forget Sri and MD, Lolo and Kajol were far ahead of her.

Karisma and Kajol were the only ones who were attracting best offers from mid 90s.

Karisma is the only one (debut from 90s) who matched steps with a dancer like Govinda without hesitation.

May I know what was the verdict of Urmila the performer's films with Govinda? Kunwara and Hum Tumpe Marte hain? ๐Ÿ˜‰ What was verdict of Jaanam samjha karo with Salman?

It was no surprise she got Judaai and that too supporting role to Sri who was going to retire then!

Even Sonali had more sense then to try to do family oriented roles. That's why people remember her as Preeti from HSSH!

but urmila overact

My dear Neetu_Singh, key words are many and few. The thing is She was bad in many movies. and gud in few movies that r being listed here. and every famous actress has those few movies to her credit where people can say "wow, she was amazing".

Every decade has a certain acting style. 90s heroines overacting was considered acting. Queen Aish was considered a good actor in the 90s.

this is the most laughable thing i would ever read...not urmila in particular but i don't remember a single kid who really adores Sonali bendre, she never gave a single big hit nor she was a good actress..either

what r u trying to say aren't any fact either...i can go and take 1 by 1 ... but then it just gonna be dragged and worse..who cares ! most of the ppl do believe she is a great actress and tht's what matters !!!

Coz she kept doing 'aaan'

'aann'

'aaan'

after every expression.

It's annoying when you are watching a movie and she goes 'aaan', 'aaan' all the time.

it depends on the choice also. if someone said Urmila wanted to be a commercial heroine. then let me remind them she has the most out beat films in her career too... today which Actress does that..Deepika, Kareena...look at their careers..seems like a joke !!!

and yes...kaun and EHT are considered classics...if some ppl don't believe its their problem ๐Ÿ˜†

and talking about like JUGNI i just want to ask, if u picking up URMILA...if she wasn't successful then let me know most of the 90's actresses are on the same lines now...

PREITY ZINTA anymore...she has become a butt of jokes on nach baliye...i can't believe this, 7 years back same forum, she was considered sort of queen, and today's she isn't even considered much of an actress.. she was on top with banners like yrf, dharma but her fall has been so saddening, and today she is always in news for bad reasons..

i think its more about the choices you make. Everyone can't be super successful. as a fan, i m happy with her work and i m sure the ones who really loved her would admire too... what's more in there..u can pull off anyway...its just an endless debate lol

Forget Madhuri or Sridevi.
Urmila wasn't even as big as Kajol or Karisma - and they were her peers. Although alongside Manisha, these two were always in the runner-up position after Kads/Lolo for most of the mid-90s... until the likes of Aishwarya-Rani-Preity came along.

Urmila is really good and much better than the so called madhuris and sridevis.

I don't know what happened after 2005. She did Naina and then disappeared and then did EMI in 2008 and that was it. Somehow she didn't get any roles.

btw, is she still single? Or seeing someone?

I'm planning to go to India and will meet her and will do 'tanha tanha' with her ๐Ÿ˜‰

I don't expect "facts" from ones who call Kaun etc classics or claim Urmila took performer route.

Kids didn't like Urmila either unless they got hormonal seeing Rangeela. ๐Ÿ˜†

I am referring to Urmila not doing family films. Sonali is just there to underline importance of doing such films in that era.

I also admire the acting Urmila did in Bhoot, Tehzeeb, Pinjar etc post 2000. But it doesn't mean her 90s image or choice of films didn't go against her.
She was just a sex symbol. Never the heroine that majority can relate to.

Oh and I completely believe in cinematic sense of one who made comeback with Karzzz. Who refused TV show Ek Hasina Thi - the same role that got awards and saw career revival for Simone Singh! Maybe it's beneath her dignity to do TV, just as it was to do small roles like KKHH, DTPH, Mohabbatein. Supporting role as husband purchaser in Judaai makes for very commendable cinematic or script sense.
