No I didn't say that biopics about controversial characters should not be made. Raju could make a movie loosely based on Sanjay Dutt story & I have no objection to it. But I will question his credibility if he ends up making a so called biopic by being selective about what part he wishes to tell. Ofcourse I could be wrong & Hirani might come up with a very honest story but then I doublt he will show Sanjay accepting his crime. He might as well skip that part or show Sanjay's side of the story which will throw new questions on the conviction which will question the motive behind the timing of the movies. Too many controversies IMO. I think Raju should just shelve this for now.
Well, you're free to do that. Just like people can question why did they show Milkha breaking world record in BMB when he didn't. That's the liberty of making a film compared to documentary. Director is telling his version only and people can come to their own conclusions. I don't think people are that gullible that their perception changes after watching a movie. If a brilliant director projects Rahul Gandhi as some mass hero, they might still watch the movie but won't change their perception about him.
I don't know if its been done in Hindi, but there's a Malayalm film called Vadakkan Veeragatha. Its based on an historical character who's known for treachery. But MT, a brilliant writer rewrote his story and portrayed him as a hero. Mammotty won National Award and it is considered one of the classics in Malayalam cinema. Everyone is glad such a film is made and enjoy it rather than worry about the creative liberty he took. If Hirani's film turns out to be good, great for everyone. Else he'll get bashed for making a poor film. Sanju's story should perceived differently rather than believing a fiction. Court punished him and that won't change with a film.
