Word Anu, SRK has sung that Tujhe Dekha countless times to all his heroines and then some... heck his CE was DDLJ rehashed completely (a godawful version of it mind you)...but the charm remains missing in all, except the original.
And YES, they have shown a lot of range together like you said. People also say things like they are considered iconic because they have done so much work together ...no they are not. They are loved because of all the shades of love/friendship they have shown together. And yes, they didn't really have good directors (Both Karan and Adi have proved they are mediocre directors since their first films...imagine a Habib Faisal, Hirani, Bhardwaj, Balki/Shinde, or even Motwane directing them), good costumes, random makeout sessions, all sorts of tech savvy stuff to make them look good, and they were given some rather vulgar and horrid songs as well...and the other thing, neither is conventionally good looking in any way...but together is magic. There's this buzzfeed article about some 26 things about Indian girls or something...one of them is you had a crush on SRK, but you had to get over it because you were utterly convinced he was married to Kajol. 🤣
LOL yeah I saw this one in the related vids on YT too...it's sooo easy to get caught up in a nostalgia trip if you watch one SRK-Kajol vid on YT...lol I ended up watching the MNIK promotion interviews too...the Rajeev Masand one that you mentioned😆...and the moment from the 2011 GIFA something awards when Kajol was pregnant I think and they both talk about that reunion scene from KKHH when they cut a whole page of dialogues that KJo wrote for them down to "Anjali? Sari?"😆😆 LOVE that scene...Gahhh I don't care how many ppl find them over-rated or keep bashing them here...to me they will be ULTIMATE, period.
People keep making sweeping statements about how these two aren't anything more than the movies they did together, they were lucky etc. etc...but show me even ONE pair today that showed the range they did...even in the shades of romance...from the youthful romance of DDLJ to the more intense type in KKHH to the GENIUS comic timing they shared in K3G to the more sober tones of MNIK...they did it all...and not even ONE pair today can even achieve an IOTA of that...aur phir log baat karte hain...pfftt.
It's NATURAL chemistry in EVERY shade...you can make them do ANYTHING together and they do it with such natural ease cuz of their natural affection for each other which is just TOTALLY unlike anything that two other actors could share together...SRK is a charmer and has charmed legions of his heroines to now even the ones half his age but not even a single one could match up to the comfort he shares with Kajol...it just IS...cannot be denied.

Well luck always works but it's true that these two are unbeatable in many senses. First of all they suit each other because they look like normal people... they breaks away the conventional gora chitta hero heroines, and most of the people feel a similarity.Second their friendship...SRK is a charmer, and his thorough gentleman manners and his behavior with women makes every actress absolutely comfortable, and in Kajol's case, they are friends for the 20 years though she's quite loud and a bit irritating(but that's her, she's just herself, and its totally fine)... they genuinely understand and love each other(no not that IF wala love, which would say that these two may be getting married, but friendship wala love).
SRK makes every woman comfortable, completely agreed and he can create chemistry with anyone, also agreed but it's been 20 years and his chemistry with Kajol stands in its own stead...
I think it's also because as he's mentioned many times, Kajol was probably his only heroine from that era when he was just starting out who was around his age...they basically MADE IT TOGETHER...that is what puts Kajol in a different league...SRK has been friends with many people for 20 years but with Kajol it's different...Juhi, Madhuri were senior in the industry to him, Kajol was his peer...the others were all younger and came later until now we've reached a stage where he's romancing women half his age.
So the fact that SRK-Kajol were on a similar journey together during that early crucial part of their career and sort of got established together in those early years just continued on in tone...for whatever reason...their common friends like KJo could be the reason for the continued bonding but it has remained in its special place...SRK's other heroines haven't been able to match that equation...this friendship wala love has topped all other loves😆
